People Coordinator (Medewerker)

Build a broad People career at GÉANT, coordinating recruitment, onboarding and employee support while helping colleagues thrive across an international organisation.

Role Overview

The employee experience is shaped by hundreds of interactions throughout someone's journey with an organisation, from the first recruitment conversation and onboarding experience through to learning, development, benefits and ongoing support. Behind each of those moments is a People team that ensures processes run smoothly, information is accurate and employees feel supported.

As a People Coordinator, you'll play an important role in delivering that experience across GÉANT. Working within an international organisation operating at the intersection of technology, research and education, you'll support a wide range of People activities spanning People Operations, Talent Acquisition and Learning & Development. Your work will help colleagues across the organisation access the systems, information and support they need to succeed.

This role would suit someone at the early stages of their People career who is keen to build broad HR experience and develop into a true People professional. While the initial focus is on establishing strong foundations across core People processes, there will be opportunities to take on increasing responsibility and develop expertise in areas such as payroll, wellbeing, immigration, absence management and other People-related activities over time.

What You'll Do

Supporting the Employee Lifecycle

  • Coordinate onboarding and off-boarding activities to ensure a positive employee experience

  • Create induction programmes, welcome packs and associated documentation for new joiners

  • Prepare employment-related documentation, including contracts and contract amendment letters

  • Conduct right-to-work, background and other pre-employment checks for the UK and Netherlands

  • Maintain accurate employee records and support associated workflows across People systems

Recruitment Coordination

  • Coordinate recruitment activity across multiple vacancies and teams

  • Schedule interviews and ensure recruitment processes remain organised and on track

  • Support hiring managers and candidates throughout the recruitment journey

  • Maintain accurate recruitment data and records within relevant systems

People Operations & Administration

  • Provide first-line support for People-related queries and requests

  • Manage the People Team inbox, responding to and triaging enquiries appropriately

  • Support benefits administration, including medical insurance, pension and cycle-to-work schemes

  • Assist with payroll-related activities as part of monthly and annual processes

  • Support Health & Safety activities within the Netherlands

Systems, Content & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain employee data across People, recruitment and learning systems

  • Create profiles for new starters and support system-based workflows

  • Manage content within the People Hub SharePoint site, ensuring information remains accurate and up to date

  • Contribute to process improvements and operational efficiency across the People function

  • Support ad-hoc People projects and initiatives as required

Employee Engagement & Office Support

  • Assist with wellbeing initiatives, People events and engagement activities

  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues across different departments

  • Provide office cover on Fridays and during periods of annual leave for the Business Management Services team in the Netherlands

  • Support day-to-day office operations, including visitor management and coordinating facilities-related issues when required

About You

We're open to candidates from a range of backgrounds. You may not have worked in a role exactly like this before, but you should be able to demonstrate many of the skills, experience and capabilities needed to succeed.

Please consider the responsibilities of the role carefully and how your experience aligns with the following areas:

  • Full professional proficiency in both Dutch and English

  • Experience coordinating activities, processes, projects or services involving multiple stakeholders

  • Strong administrative skills with excellent attention to detail

  • Experience maintaining accurate records, documentation and data

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively

  • Confidence using digital systems and Microsoft Office applications

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when working with a variety of stakeholders

  • A proactive and solution-focused approach to problem solving

  • Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment

  • A customer-focused mindset and willingness to take ownership of tasks and responsibilities

This role is well suited to someone who enjoys helping people, improving processes and providing excellent operational support. It offers the opportunity to build broad People experience while developing specialist knowledge and responsibility over time.

This may not be the right level if...

You are primarily seeking a position focused solely on administrative support with highly structured processes and close day-to-day direction, this role may offer more ownership and variety than you are looking for. You'll be expected to manage a broad range of activities, build relationships across the organisation and take increasing responsibility as your experience and confidence develop.

We recognise that people build experience in different ways and do not expect candidates to meet every point listed above. If your background aligns with many of these areas and you're interested in the opportunity, we'd like to hear from you.

Working Arrangements

This is a full-time position (39 hours per week) based in Amsterdam on a 1-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of an indefinite contract thereafter.

The role follows our flexible-hybrid working model, with employees working flexibly between a remote and office environment.

For this role, we anticipate that you may be required in the office for around 3 days per week.

During the first few months, new employees are expected to spend additional time in the office to support learning, onboarding and integration.

There may also be occasional travel for meetings, events, project activity or stakeholder engagement, depending on the needs of the role.

What We Offer

You'll receive excellent benefits at GÉANT – we offer a generous holiday allowance and a 5% end of year bonus/allowance as standard. The other benefits you receive will depend on the country you are employed in, but you can rest assured that these will include an appropriate pension scheme and medical insurance.

GÉANT is at the heart of research and education networking. We deliver an information ecosystem of infrastructures and services to advance research, education, and innovation on a global scale.
Joining GÉANT you’ll be part of a dedicated and passionate community of experts working together to develop, deliver, and promote the world’s most advanced networks and e-infrastructure services that support over 50 million scientists, researchers, academics, and students across the world.
