The ITS Development team in the IT Services department, part of the Central Tech business unit, provides technical expertise to support internal technology platforms and services across the organisation. We are responsible for developing, maintaining, and evolving solutions that enable efficient IT operations, streamline business processes, and improve the employee experience. Our goal is to empower teams with reliable, scalable, and well-integrated technology that supports Booking.com’s business and technology communities.

Role Overview

Within the IT Services Development team, a software engineer takes part in designing, implementing and maintaining internal tools, systems, services and integrations which enable the workforce at Booking.com and other Booking Holdings brands to be mobile and productive.

The team’s services ownership scope includes, but is not limited to, the following aspects:

  • User provisioning mechanisms, interconnecting company’s Identity and Authorization Management system to 3rd party applications
  • Employee data synchronization and internal exposure services
  • Employee Benefits Program management service
  • Corporate offices meeting rooms management service
  • Employee communications management systems

Programming languages and key technologies used within the team are:

  • Hosting platforms: Booking Kubernetes Services (private cloud) / AWS / Mulesoft
  • Programming languages: Java, TypeScript
  • Other technologies used: Mulesoft, MySQL, Kafka, React

The team (along with the all the Tech & Product teams) uses agile methodology.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Designing and building software applications, automations and integration by using relevant development languages and technologies, and applying knowledge of systems, services and tools appropriate for the business area
  • Build template solutions on complex integration cases and liaise with our business stakeholders and traduce their business needs into Integration solutions.
  • Maintaining and supporting existing integration interfaces.
  • Createing technical design and actual implementation of solutions.
  • Owning a service end to end by actively monitoring application/integration health and performance, setting and monitoring relevant metrics and act accordingly when violated
  • Identify and resolve live production issues by mitigating the customer impact within SLA
  • Evaluating possible architecture solutions by taking into account cost, business requirements, technology requirements and emerging technologies
  • Identifying opportunities for process, system and structural improvements (i.e performance gains) by examining and evaluating current process flows, methods and standards
  • Drive and implement solutions for automations or new functionalities in the reliability tools
  • Delivering clear, well-structured, and meaningful information to a target audience by using suitable communication mediums and language tailored to the audience

Role Qualifications and Requirements

  • Min 5+ years of experience in the IT industry
  • Minimum of 3 years software development experience.
  • Strong working knowledge and experience with Java / SpringBoot
  • Good understanding of concepts such as Mulesoft, EDA, MOA, SOA, SOAP, REST APIs, RESTful, RPC/RFC, event streams such as Kafka and different integration patterns.
  • Integration platform experience with Mule 4.x, CloudHub 1.0, (Ideally some experience on CloudHub 2.0)
  • Exposure to a variety of enterprise architectures from a large monolithic architecture to hybrid landscapes consisting of distributed systems and microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience of API led design using RAML/OAS and experience of supporting APIs through the full API lifecycle and system observability is a plus (Graphite, Grafana etc.)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication; written and spoken and experience working with non-technical stakeholders
