At a glance

ABN AMRO Clearing is a global leader in clearing, operating across Europe, the US, and APAC. IT is at the heart of our organisation, with a large global engineering community driving innovation, reliability, and performance for our clients.

We operate in a chapter-based engineering model, where craftsmanship, leadership, and continuous improvement are key to delivering high-quality software at scale.

As a Chapter Lead TypeScript / Angular, you are responsible for the “how” within the frontend engineering capability—combining people leadership, technical excellence, and standardisation of ways of working.

You will lead a chapter of highly skilled engineers and act as a thought leader in Angular and TypeScript, while remaining hands-on in engineering work.

This is a hybrid leadership role:

  • ~70% contributing to engineering and delivery
  • ~30% focused on coaching, people management, and chapter leadership

Your job

1. People Management & Chapter Leadership (Primary focus)

  • Lead, coach, and develop a chapter of 4–15 engineers (internal and external)
  • Drive performance management, growth conversations, and career development for chapter members
  • Build a strong engineering culture focused on craftsmanship, ownership, and continuous learning
  • Act as a mentor and coach, supporting both soft and hard skill development
  • Ensure employee engagement, retention, and professional development within the chapter

2. Technical Leadership (Angular / TypeScript)

  • Act as a thought leader in Angular and TypeScript, setting direction and standards
  • Define and enforce frontend architecture, design principles, and coding standards
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, scalable, and secure frontend applications
  • Guide teams in modern frontend engineering practices (testing, CI/CD, performance, accessibility)
  • Contribute hands-on to complex technical implementations

You are expected to have deep expert-level knowledge in:

  • Angular (enterprise-scale applications)
  • TypeScript (frontend and potentially backend APIs)
  • Frontend architecture, design systems, and usability

3. Way of Working & Standards

  • Define and implement best practices, frameworks, and development standards across the chapter
  • Establish knowledge-sharing structures, communities of practice, and guilds
  • Ensure alignment with global engineering standards and compliance requirements
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering maturity and developer experience

4. Workforce Planning & Talent Strategy

  • Perform strategic workforce planning together with the Chapter Area Lead
  • Identify skill gaps and define training and upskilling initiatives
  • Actively contribute to recruitment (interviews, selection criteria, hiring decisions)
  • Balance capacity, skills, and demand across squads and initiatives

5. Collaboration within the Product Grid

  • Work closely with Product Owners, Architects, and other Chapter Leads
  • Contribute as an active engineer in delivery squads
  • Ensure that technical and non-functional requirements are embedded in delivery
  • Facilitate alignment across global teams and regions

Your profile

Technical Expertise

  • Expert-level experience in Angular and TypeScript (enterprise environments)
  • Strong understanding of frontend architecture, APIs, and DevOps practices
  • Experience defining and maintaining engineering standards and frameworks
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, testing, and cloud-native development

Leadership & People Management

  • Proven experience in coaching and developing engineers
  • Ability to lead performance management and career development processes
  • Strong leadership mindset with a focus on empowerment and growth
  • Experience in building high-performing teams and communities

Professional Skills

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to influence without hierarchy in a global organisation
  • Passion for knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
  • Solid understanding of Agile/DevOps ways of working
