What you do:
As Legal Counsel Northern Europe, you will support the Head of Legal Northern Europe in delivering high-quality legal services across the Netherlands and the wider Northern Europe region (Benelux, Nordics, and Baltics). You will act as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders, providing practical, commercially focused legal guidance that enables business growth while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and Allianz Group standards.
You will collaborate with colleagues across Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations, Commercial, and Functional teams to manage legal risks, support strategic initiatives, and drive efficient legal processes in a dynamic international environment.

Key Responsibilities
Legal Advisory & Business Partnership
- Provide clear, pragmatic, and commercially focused legal advice across the insurance and assistance value chain.
- Partner with business stakeholders on a broad range of legal, regulatory, and commercial matters.
- Translate complex legal concepts into practical recommendations that support business objectives while managing risk.
- Support strategic business initiatives, projects, and transformation programs from a legal perspective.
Contracting & Commercial Support
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer, supplier, distribution, partnership, outsourcing, technology, and service agreements.
- Support business negotiations with customers, partners, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement and standardization of legal templates, contract processes, and legal documentation.
Regulatory & Compliance Support
- Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, particularly within regulated financial services and insurance environments.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and proactively advise stakeholders on potential impacts and required actions.
- Support legal risk assessments and help implement effective risk mitigation measures.
Corporate Governance & Dispute Resolution
- Support corporate governance activities, including maintenance of corporate records, powers of attorney, and regulatory registrations.
- Manage and coordinate litigation, complaints, disputes, and external legal matters, engaging with external counsel where required.
- Ensure effective management of legal documentation and governance processes.
Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing
- Work closely with Allianz Partners legal teams across local, regional, and global functions.
- Participate in cross-functional and international projects, providing legal expertise throughout project lifecycles.
- Promote legal awareness through stakeholder training, guidance, and knowledge-sharing activities.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and business partnership.
Digital & AI Readiness
- Leverage legal technology, digital tools, and AI-enabled solutions responsibly to improve efficiency, enhance legal service delivery, and support informed decision-making.
- Contribute to the adoption of innovative ways of working while ensuring compliance with Allianz Partners policies, data privacy requirements, ethical standards, and applicable regulations.
- Stay informed about emerging legal, regulatory, and technology developments that may impact business operations and legal practices.
What you bring
- Master's degree in Law from a recognized Dutch university.
- Approximately 3 to 7 years of relevant post-qualification legal experience gained within a law firm, in-house legal department, or a combination of both.
- Strong commercial mindset with the ability to balance legal risk and business priorities.
- Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all organizational levels.
- Proactive, pragmatic, and solution-oriented approach with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Ability to work independently while effectively managing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of the Dutch Financial Supervision Act (Wft), BGfo, and Vrijstellingsregeling Wft is considered a strong advantage.
- Experience within the insurance sector, financial services, or another highly regulated industry is advantageous.
Exposure to one or more of the following areas would be beneficial:
- Litigation and dispute resolution (including Kifid matters)

- Consumer law
- Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)
- Comfortable working within a matrix organization and collaborating across multiple countries and cultures.
- Fluent in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
- Digitally curious with an openness to leveraging AI-enabled and technology-driven solutions to enhance productivity and business outcomes.
