Your job

As an ESG Risk Analyst you contribute to the development and execution of ESG risk analyses and guide decision-making, including the following particulars:

  • Translate ESG issues and demands from society and investors into actions for the bank
  • Contribute to the delivery of one or more key products, such as ESG Risk controls, Environmental & Social Risk Heatmap, ESG Risk Policy, and the Risk Appetite framework
  • Define and review climate transition plans
  • Contribute to the implementation of sustainable finance regulations by translating requirements into our risk management framework

Working environment

Banking is the business of taking risks. However, which risks are acceptable and which are not? The Sustainability Risk Team identifies ESG risks, assesses the risks and addresses them with concrete measures. Moreover, the team is heavily involved in the implementation of sustainable finance regulations. We consist of an energetic group of people who share the same drive and vision for sustainability and long term value creation.

The Sustainability Risk Team currently consists of dedicated professionals with a mix of experience in the field of ESG risk and risk management.

The Sustainability Risk Team is part of Strategic Risk Management department, that is besides sustainability risk, responsible for topics like, risk appetite, risk reporting, and enterprise risk management. The Sustainability Risk Team works in close cooperation with colleagues from across ABN AMRO, including the Client Units, Risk departments, Group Sustainability, Group Strategy, Finance and Modelling.

Your profile

  • You are an analytical and hands-on professional with a proactive mindset, embodying the core values of Care, Collaboration, and Courage. You approach challenges with a critical eye, continuously identifying opportunities to enhance and streamline processes. As an ESG Risk Analyst, you are resourceful and bring a creative, entrepreneurial perspective to problem-solving.
  • You are a fast and curious learner with a strong drive for continuous development and a clear commitment to delivering high-quality results. Naturally self-driven, you take ownership, show initiative, and consistently follow through to completion.
  • You hold a Master’s or PhD degree in economics, finance, business, environmental science, material science, or a related field. You stay up to date with evolving ESG trends and understand their implications for ABN AMRO. Having engaged with the bank’s annual report, you are genuinely motivated by its ambitions and can identify opportunities for further improvement.
  • You are familiar with the sustainability agendas of the European Commission and the European Central Bank and are comfortable translating regulatory developments into practical insights.
  • You are data-savvy, with strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills, and are proficient in tools such as Excel and Power BI. You thrive in a flexible, collaborative environment while maintaining the confidence to form independent opinions and deliver actionable recommendations.
  • You communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally. Professional proficiency in English is essential; proficiency in Dutch, particularly spoken, is strongly preferred.
  • This role is suitable for recent graduates as well as candidates with up to three years of experience in banking or a related field, ideally with exposure to sustainability and risk management.
