As a Senior IP Counsel – Audio/Video Technologies in the General Licensing team, you’ll have the opportunity to create maximum value from our Philips IP portfolio through licensing and other commercial IP-based activities. You will participate in the conception and execution of appropriate IP strategies. You will also support and handle IP matters in a wide range of collaborations with third parties and litigation.
The Philips Intellectual Property & Standards Department (IP&S) is an integral part of Philips. IP&S helps develop and manage all types of intellectual property for Philips worldwide. We optimize these IP assets and provide counseling to support innovation and new business opportunities. We are also actively engaged in shaping and building our IP portfolio so that we can create maximum value from that portfolio for Philips through licensing and other commercial IP-based deals.
You will become part of an international community of IP professionals with wide-ranging technical backgrounds and IP experience. The IP&S team will offer excellent opportunities for your further development as an IP Counsel and professional networking. The position is open for our office in Eindhoven (NL).
In your role you will be:
Working in collaboration with global IP&S colleagues to:
- Evaluate invention disclosures with the goal of providing optimal protection and generating maximum long-term value to Philips.
- Prepare, file, and prosecute high-quality patent applications meeting international standards. Maintain a substantial and active prosecution docket of patent applications.
- Support infringement and validity analysis, including claim chart mapping to technical standards or other use cases.
- Support analysis of third-party patents in the relevant technology domains.
You're the right fit if:

- A Master’s or PHD degree and technical background in electrical engineering or physics with subject matter expertise in audio/video technologies (like standard codec and compressions technologies such as AAC, AVC, HEVC, VVC, etc.)
- A qualified European patent attorney who has passed the European Qualifying Examination (EQE).
- At least 5 years of work experience in IP drafting and prosecution, portfolio management and counseling, defending IP assertions, contributing to IP litigations and/or IP Licensing.
- Excellent analytical and intellectual capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication in English and presentation skills to operate at all levels both internally and externally.
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in a multicultural environment.
- A positive and open team player with excellent relationship building, influencing- and negotiating abilities.
Compensation & benefits
Doing meaningful work should come with fair, transparent rewards. The base salary range for this role is EUR 93,000 - EUR 155,000. We determine pay within the range using objective factors, like the skills the role requires, your relevant experience and the responsibility you'll have in this role, alongside internal equity and local market considerations.
This role is eligible for 6% short term incentive with your rewards linked to both individual performance and company results. Benefits include hybrid working, paid time-off, health and wellbeing benefits, learning and development opportunities.

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week.
