fpga & embedded software engineer
Maastricht Engineering Medior

Would you like to combine FPGAs with embedded software and work on systems where speed, reliability and smart integration make all the difference? Then this might be your next step at DEMCON in Maastricht.

At DEMCON, we create technology that makes a difference today and tomorrow. We develop technically complex high-tech, medical and industrial systems that bring together software, electronics, mechanics and FPGA technology. Think of systems featuring sensors, actuators, data acquisition, motion control and reliable embedded control. FPGAs are increasingly playing a key role in these systems for fast, deterministic or data-intensive functions. You’ll work in multidisciplinary teams on solutions that are robust, verifiable and manufacturable.

About Demcon

Each one of our companies differentiates itself in its own domain with unique expertise and skills. This way they help customers improve their performance and achieve more. On the basis of their passion for technology our companies are able to combine forces. By sharing knowledge and working together we increase our social impact. Demcon management & support is a developer and producer of technology and innovative products that contribute to solutions for technical and social problems.

What are you going to do?

As an FPGA engineer specialising in embedded software design, you will develop and test FPGA solutions that work closely with software on embedded platforms. The main focus is on FPGA development, but you will also undertake software engineering tasks relating to the integration, control and verification of the system. You will contribute ideas on the system architecture, translate functional requirements into clear FPGA and software architectures, and ensure that your design works reliably with drivers, interfaces, algorithms, application software and test software. In addition, you will contribute to embedded software development, requirements analysis, design documentation, integration, debugging and verification on platforms such as Linux, Windows, ARM or Intel processors. Where necessary, you will develop low-level software, drivers or test software in languages such as C, C++ or Python.

You will be given considerable freedom to shape the substance of your work and to delve deeper into both FPGA technology and embedded software. This includes modern development and verification tools such as Vivado, Vitis, ModelSim, MATLAB HDL Coder and Python test benches using Cocotb. Depending on the project, you may also gain experience with Vitis HLS, AI implementations on FPGA platforms and CI/CD workflows using GitLab and Docker. Through our FPGA competence group, you will share knowledge with colleagues and help drive the further development of FPGA technology within DEMCON.

What do you bring to the table?

  • Bsc or Msc degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems or a comparable discipline;
  • At least 3 years’ relevant work experience in FPGA development, for example using VHDL/Verilog and Xilinx platforms, or demonstrable in-depth knowledge in this area;
  • Experience with, or a strong affinity for, technical software development in C, C++, C#, Python or similar languages;
  • Knowledge of embedded platforms, such as Linux, Windows and ARM or Intel processors;
  • A sense of ownership, a hands-on approach and the drive to deliver tangible results.

What do we offer you?

At Demcon, you’ll be working on technology that makes a real difference. In a relaxed organisation that encourages initiative and fosters a positive working relationship with motivated colleagues, you’ll help build solutions for both today and tomorrow. We genuinely care about you as a person and encourage job satisfaction and a healthy work-life balance.

You can also count on the following, amongst other things:

  • A competitive salary between €37.728,- and €68.616,- per year (excluding 8% holiday pay), depending on your experience;
  • 8% holiday pay, with the option to have this paid out in May or monthly with your salary;
  • 25 vacation days and 6 ATV days based on full-time employment and an option to purchase additional vacation days;
  • Partial remote working arrangement: up to 2 days per week for full-time employees, always in consultation with your manager;
  • Training courses and programmes via the Demcon Academy for your personal and professional development;
  • A good pension scheme with Zwitserleven;
  • Bicycle scheme/bicycle lease scheme;
  • Vitality program including fun sports clinics, fresh fruit, workshops and a workplace health check;
  • Active staff association (monthly activities and an annual Demcon weekend).
