We are currently seeking a Lead Engineer to join our Automation Team, part of the Systems Department in Delft, the Netherlands. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who enjoys bringing people together, connecting disciplines, and creating the conditions for technical excellence. You are not leading projects, but building a team that does so. You are helping shape the future of automation within Allseas.

Allseas is a world-leading contractor in the offshore energy market, with dynamism, rapid progress and pioneering spirit at its core. To stay ahead of the industry, we are developing tomorrow’s technology today, transforming bold ideas into state-of-the-art solutions to meet the market’s ever-changing needs.

Your role

As Lead Engineer, you are the technical and organizational glue within the Automation Team. You foster collaboration, create alignment, and ensure that engineering efforts contribute to a shared vision. You are curious by nature, eager to understand both the technical details and the broader context, and motivated to help others succeed.

You work closely with engineers, project teams, stakeholders, and department leadership to establish priorities, maintain technical quality, and continuously improve the way the team operates. You help create a long-term direction for automation within the Systems Department while ensuring that day-to-day engineering activities move the team towards that vision.

As Lead Engineer, you:

  • Drive technical ownership and engineering excellence within the Automation Team;
  • Act as the primary connector between team members, disciplines, projects, and stakeholders;
  • Coach, mentor, and support engineers in their technical and personal development;
  • Create clarity, alignment, and focus on multidisciplinary engineering activities;
  • Encourage curiosity, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement;
  • Help define and maintain the long-term automation strategy and roadmap;
  • Guide technical decision-making and engineering standards;
  • Support project teams in resolving complex system and integration challenges;
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, standardization, and framework development;
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, and enthusiasm.

You will be working on some of the industry's most capable and advanced systems around the world, such as the unique Jacket Lift System, anchor positioning systems, fully automated pipelay factories, and diamond wire cutters.

What we expect from you

You are an experienced engineer who naturally takes ownership and brings people together. You enjoy understanding how systems work as a whole and are passionate about helping teams perform at their best. While technical expertise is important, your greatest strength lies in enabling others and creating an environment where engineering can thrive.

You are energized by building long-term improvements rather than focusing solely on short-term deliverables, planning, or resource allocation. You are convinced that structural, long-term improvements provide the foundation for successful project execution and sustainable results.

Ideally you have:

  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline;
  • Extensive experience working with multidisciplinary engineering systems;
  • Proven experience in a technical leadership, lead engineer, or senior engineering role;
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills;
  • The ability to translate complex technical topics into clear direction and decisions;
  • Experience coaching and mentoring engineers;
  • Experience within automation, control systems, PLCs, software development, or systems engineering is considered a strong advantage;
  • A pragmatic, hands-on mindset combined with strategic thinking.

What makes you successful?

You are:

  • Curious and always seeking to understand;
  • Comfortable taking ownership without relying on formal authority;
  • Enthusiastic and capable of inspiring others;
  • Focused on people, collaboration, and technical quality;
  • Able to connect long-term vision with daily engineering activities;
  • Passionate about building strong teams and sustainable engineering solutions.
