At Capgemini Engineering, the world leader in engineering services, we bring together a global team of engineers, scientists, and architects to help the world’s most innovative companies unleash their potential. Join us for a career full of opportunities, where you can make a difference and where no two days are the same.

What you’ll be working on as a Data Science Consultant

You will join our Data & AI team, a unique group that bridges the gap between cutting-edge science and advanced technology. This team focuses on solving complex, high-impact problems for top R&D teams in large enterprises, particularly in industries such as pharmaceuticals, green energy, and manufacturing. We work on challenges where there are no blueprints, requiring innovative solutions developed in close collaboration with research teams.

In this exciting role, you will:

  • Collaborate closely with scientific and technical clients to understand their unique challenges and deliver groundbreaking solutions that exceed their expectations.
  • Apply your deep understanding of data science to solve real-world problems in the fields of AI/ML, manufacturing, and R&D, while helping clients tackle some of the most critical issues of tomorrow.
  • Engage in a variety of Data Science and R&D projects, where risk management, change control processes, and documentation are key aspects of your work.
  • Use your strong analytical skills to translate complex technical concepts into understandable solutions for stakeholders, ensuring all project requirements are met effectively.
  • Work on interdisciplinary projects that combine applied mathematics, AI/ML, and scientific computing, delivering tangible solutions that drive innovation and create real business value.

Your profile

To succeed in this role, you should have:

  • A solid foundation in software development or Data Science, with specialized knowledge in AI/ML, LLM's, manufacturing, or R&D.
  • A scientific or technical background, ideally with a MSc or PhD in a relevant field.
  • Strong experience in solving complex technical problems and the ability to communicate sophisticated concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • A passion for working at the intersection of applied mathematics, AI, scientific computing, and software engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills, allowing you to bridge the gap between technical teams and client needs, ensuring effective project delivery.

These criteria provide an indication of the profile we are looking for. If you do not meet every criterion but believe this role is a great fit for you, we warmly encourage you to apply.

Due to client screening requirements, this vacancy is applicable for EU passport holders only.

What we offer

Our Data & AI team consists of about 20 colleagues and is known for strong team engagement. They highly value collaboration on projects, discussing the potential of new data science and software engineering topics, and meeting weekly in person in our Utrecht office.

Other than this collaborative and social environment, we offer:

  • 26 vacation days, with the option to purchase additional leave days.
  • Engagement in projects that directly impact industrial technology and innovation, where you can collaborate with top engineers and expand your expertise.
  • Access to career development programs, certifications, and digital learning platforms to support your growth.
  • Contributions to your pension, with flexibility to make additional personal contributions.
  • Work from wherever suits you best with connectivity and home office allowance.
  • A high-performance laptop and a SIM card that you may also use for personal purposes.
  • FlexAbroad: Work up to 45 days per year from abroad.
  • A high level of freedom and responsibility in your work.

Your work environment

With over 200 colleagues, our Manufacturing & Industrial Operations department offers significant and meaningful contributions to various organisations in The Netherlands and occasionally abroad. Our people have expertise in offering partnerships and solutions around industrial automation, smart factory, and data science.

Our projects vary tremendously, from upgrading automation systems for a vaccine production line, designing smart sensors based on IoT and cloud technology to reduce food waste, to developing predictive models to optimize warehouse logistics.

You may work as a technical coordinator in large project teams of over 50 colleagues, or on a solution with only two or three other colleagues. This makes the work highly varied and unpredictable in scope, project duration, and commuting time, while also offering strong learning and growth opportunities. And the best thing is, everyone has your back in becoming successful, because our clients and partners depend on it.

To ensure the safety and integrity of our organization, a background check is part of the onboarding process.
