Introductie

How do you keep the Netherlands powered?

In this exciting position as Grid Planning and Analysis Specialist you will provide specialised knowledge and skills in a specific area of expertise to drive innovation and support successful execution of projects, initiatives, innovations and/or daily operations. You are responsible for recognizing bottlenecks in the grid, initiating next steps and defining solutions for the mitigation of capacity constraints.

This way you will contribute to keeping the energy system solid and viable.

Are you ready to make an impact?

Jouw rol

The energy transition requires a smart, reliable, robust, affordable and future-proof development of our grid. Therefore, it is key to have a continuously updated understanding of how the electricity grid will evolve and where future limitations and opportunities are emerging. As a Grid Planning & Analysing Specialist within the team of Grid Solutions in the division Design, you play a key role in translating complex system analyses, together with our stakeholders, into a coherent view of future grid development.

You directly contribute to TenneT's strategic goals such as security of supply, sustainability, and strengthening our infrastructure. In this role, you are responsible for recognizing bottlenecks in the grid, initiating next steps and defining solutions for the mitigation of capacity constraints. These (non) grid solutions are developed for all time horizons (0-5y, 5-15y and 15-25y), aligning with all developments as included in the investment plan, grid visions, target grid and policies. With your experience of complex system analysis, extra high voltage grid knowledge and problem solving capabilities, you ensure that the future grid development enables the transport of electricity meeting all requirements with regard to grid security and stability.

Impact and purpose of the role

As a Grid Planning & Analysing Specialist, you operate at the heart of strategic grid development and provide the analytical foundation for future grid investments and system development decisions. Drawing on your knowledge and experience you are able to perform integrated grid planning analyses and grid performance studies and bring the outcome together with congestion assessments, scenario development, asset strategies, and both regional and national energy developments.

By combining these insights, you develop and maintain a coherent view of future grid developments and translate complex technical analyses into clear grid visions, planning perspectives, and investment recommendations. You work closely with stakeholders across Design, Operate, Onshore, (local) authorities and DSO’s to ensure that network development strategies are based on a consistent understanding of future capacity needs and system constraints.

To support well-founded decision-making, you – together with the multidisciplinary teams within Design – identify which analyses and studies are required, assess and interpret their outcomes, and translate the results into actionable insights for the grid. Where necessary, you balance different perspectives, address uncertainties, and provide recommendations on the most effective development pathways for the electricity grid.

Throughout the planning cycle, you monitor whether changes in demand, generation, congestion risks, system developments, and investment plans remain aligned with the assumptions underlying the grid vision and strategic plans. You support multidisciplinary teams within Design by providing analytical expertise, validating assumptions, and ensuring consistency between long-term scenarios, congestion insights and network development plans.

In doing so, you play a key role in shaping a reliable, robust, and future-proof electricity grid and contribute directly to TenneT's strategic objectives of security of supply, enabling the energy transition, and delivering efficient infrastructure investments.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring future-proof grid development by assessing grid strategy alternatives, system development scenarios and network expansion options within your assigned region.
  • Leading and coordinating grid planning and system studies to assess future system needs, identify constraints and evaluate potential network development pathways.
  • Developing and maintaining regional grid visions (together with DSO’s) and planning perspectives by translating the outcomes of Investment Plan (IP) analyses, congestion studies, scenario assessments and stakeholder insights into coherent system development strategies.
  • Developing and maintaining national grid vision (with developments of offshore wind, nuclear, industry and interconnections) and planning perspectives by translating the outcomes of Investment Plan (IP) analyses, strategic studies, scenario assessments, and stakeholder insights into coherent network development strategies.
  • Providing the analytical foundation for network investment decisions (TollGate 1) by identifying system constraints, assessing alternative solutions and supporting prioritization of network reinforcement and expansion projects.
  • Performing grid calculations for investment decisions (TollGate 1) and assessing the future behavior of the grid and the total system, particularly in relation to power flows, short circuit levels, reactive power, contingency analyses and system stability.
  • Contributing to harmonized grid development methodologies, planning standards, and analytical frameworks across TenneT, ensuring consistency in network development strategies and planning processes in all project phases.

Results and KPIs

Success in this role is measured by:

  • Robust, future-proof and feasible grid development and planning.
  • Delivery of high-quality system grid visions.
  • Timely and high-quality delivery of input for Tollgate 1 documents.
  • Effective collaboration in multidisciplinary teams within Design and stakeholders.
  • A seamless alignment with Operate on grid development aspects.
  • Developing thorough knowledge of applicable tools and becoming an expert user.

Waar kom je terecht

Design translates TenneT’s strategy into a future-proof vision of the energy system. Colleagues within this division have a front-row view of today’s energy system and especially of tomorrow’s. Design provides direction for system choices, designs the foundation of the energy system of the future, and creates room for faster implementation. In close alignment with our customers and public stakeholders, Design determines what is needed in the long term to ensure security of supply and system integrity.

Jouw profiel & achtergrond

You will be part of the Grid Solutions team within Design, work on the EHV-grid (220/380kV specific) and report to the Manager of Grid Solutions. In this role, you work closely with colleagues from Design, Operate, Onshore, Offshore and other disciplines across TenneT, as well as with external stakeholders such as DSOs, government authorities, regulators, and regional energy partners. In this role, you will also participate in multidisciplinary teams within Design and on call, with Onshore and/or Offshore. In this way, you will contribute to the preparation of investment projects that are aligned with management and maintenance projects, customer projects and support their implementation with clear design documents and expertise.

Your Profile

Experience and background

  • A completed HBO or WO education in electrical engineering. You also have demonstrable technical knowledge of infrastructures and grid designs and have experience with system studies.
  • Relevant, multi-year (preferably > 10 year) work experience in creating models for and analyzing grid designs by using appropriate tools like PSS/E, PowerFactory, Vision including scripting (via Python).
  • Strong analytical skills to perform problem analyses and assess solutions for feasibility in system-technical aspects.
  • Demonstrable experience with quality assurance and the ability to understand conflicting interests to make the right trade-offs and create support.
  • Excellent communication skills (Dutch and English) and the ability to articulate clearly in writing and presentations.
  • Strong persuasiveness, good judgment and the ability to weigh interests and build bridges in stressful situations.

Competencies

  • Manages complexity: ability to understand large amounts of complex and sometimes contradictory information to solve problems effectively.
  • Decisiveness: making good and timely decisions that move the projects and organization forward.
  • Fostering innovation: actively creating and promoting new and improved ways for the organization to achieve its objectives and deliver sustainable value.
  • Optimizes work processes: knowing the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, focusing on continuous improvement.
  • Organizational sensitivity: recognizing the impact and consequences of decisions on other parts of the organization.
  • Persuasiveness: using convincing arguments to gain support and commitment from others.
  • Collaboration: builds positive working relationships – in political arenas -, actively supports colleagues and contributes to an inclusive and collaborative team environment. Fosters open communication and mutual respect to achieve shared goals.

TenneT values

At TenneT, our work is guided by behaviors rooted in our three values: Ownership, Courage and Connection.

  • Ownership means doing what matters for collective success, because results are shown in actions, not words.
  • Courage means daring to move forward, because acceleration requires sometimes a decision based on well assessed risks without knowing all details up to perfection.
  • Connection means strengthening each other to achieve more, because true collaboration turns potential into performance.

These behaviors help us build an organization that works smarter and delivers more every day, for our clients and for each other.
