Role Description

As Booking.com’s business models, products and regulatory obligations continue to evolve, we are looking for a Senior Tax Manager to join the Central Tax Hub. The main focus of this role is to lead and drive a portfolio of complex global tax matters that span across multiple departments, domains and/or geographies, including compliance with tax regulations in all relevant countries where these businesses operate. The role is designed for a senior individual contributor who can lead and execute high-impact, cross-functional tax programs with end-to-end ownership.

The main focus of this role is to own and execute tax technicalities on large horizontal company priority programs and key departmental priority programs, while ensuring the right tax strategy, prioritization, governance and implementation discipline are in place. The remit will span major business areas and strategic initiatives, and serve as the bridge between legislation, business model design, risk appetite and risk management, materiality and execution.

The role is located at the Booking.com headquarters in Amsterdam and you will work closely with the broader Tax team, Finance, product and technology stakeholders, international offices and Booking Holdings colleagues as relevant.

Job Overview

Booking.com’s mission is to make it easier for everyone to experience the world. Booking.com invests in digital technology that helps take the friction out of travel.

Key Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead and drive high-impact, high-complexity tax matters across horizontal company priority programs and key departmental priority programs, from scoping through solution design, execution, implementation and monitoring.
  • Act as the tax technical owner for strategic programs in scope, ensuring tax positions can be translated into practical, scalable and execution-ready business requirements.
  • Partner closely with other teams on technical capability needs and prioritization, while ensuring tax requirements are sufficiently clear, complete and actionable for implementation.
  • Assess business alignment and monitor and manage risks and risk appetite across large horizontal company priority programs and departmental programs; assess, review and approve tax positions, actions, prioritization and mitigation approaches.
  • Ensure, together with relevant business and tech stakeholders, that tax requirements are implemented correctly and are operationally workable.
  • Build strong partnerships across the company to create buy-in, remove ambiguity and drive timely decisions and execution.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging AI technologies to optimize tax processes, enhance data quality, and support decision-making, while contributing to the company’s digital tax strategy through the integration of AI tools into tax service delivery.

Role Qualifications

  • Master degree (in Accounting, Finance/Tax Economics/Law or similar degree)
  • 10+ years of working experience within a Big 4 and/or international environment and in-house experience within the digital economy / e-commerce industry
  • Expert in digital economy and e-commerce challenges and taxes, especially in the OTA business, such as marketplace facilitator statutes, deemed supplier rules, platform collection and remittance obligations, VAT/GST/sales taxes, etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of international tax regulations and indirect tax frameworks; North America and LATAM region is a plus.
  • Extensive experience leading complex tax matters with significant business, operational and cross-functional impact at scale.
  • Experience with tax compliance/accounting/technology

Requirements

  • Ability to navigate complex organizations, bring together the right functions, and anticipate future tax exposures across the company.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, including the ability to identify key stakeholders, build buy-in, influence decisions and drive change across multiple teams and seniority levels.
  • Comfortable operating under pressure and strict deadlines and in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities, ambiguity and evolving scope simultaneously.
  • Proactive, pragmatic and execution oriented, with the ability to create new solutions for complex business initiatives and new tax regulations rather than relying only on established approaches.
  • Ability to incorporate AI-enabled ways of working in a practical and responsible manner, including improving velocity, consistency and scalability without compromising technical quality, audit readiness or risk management.
  • Strong judgment and a well-developed sense of ethics, risk management and materiality.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) in English, with the ability to convey clear, structured messages, ask the right questions, and tailor communication to technical and non-technical audiences.
