Are you a process‑driven commissioning professional with a strong interest in biological systems and operational optimization? Join WTT as our Process Commissioning Engineer and play a key role in bringing our composting and anaerobic digestion facilities successfully into operation worldwide.

At WTT, we build high-tech installations all over the world to process organic waste.

Your Role

As Process Commissioning Engineer, you are responsible for the full commissioning lifecycle of WTT composting and anaerobic digestion facilities. This role goes beyond traditional commissioning activities such as PLC or electrical checks and focuses strongly on hot commissioning, biological performance, mass balance validation, and process optimisation. In this role you’ll be responsible for:

  • Leading full commissioning sequences of composting and AD facilities.
  • Validating plant performance against mass balance calculations and process design intent.
  • Monitoring biological development, temperature profiles, aeration, moisture levels, and throughput.
  • Diagnosing and resolving process deviations such as insufficient aeration, heat loss, or moisture imbalance.
  • Reading, interpreting, and verifying P&ID diagrams and identify discrepancies between design and reality.
  • Performing on site sampling of compost and biomass and interpret laboratory results (e.g. moisture, ODS, AT4, Rottegrad, C/N balance).
  • Translating sampling and process data into operational adjustments.
  • Supporting and training plant operators during start up and transition to full operation.
  • Providing structured commissioning reports and feed lessons learned back into Process Engineering and Sales Engineering.
  • Collaborating closely with Process Engineers, Process Performance Analysts, Customer Support Engineers, and site operators.

You will work independently on site with remote support and report to the Manager Services and Project Manager, with a functional line to Process Engineering.

What do we expect from you?

  • A completed Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Technology, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of aerobic and anaerobic processes, biological degradation, mass balances, aeration, and heat and moisture transfer.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs (ability to correct them is an advantage).
  • Experience interpreting industrial process data via SCADA systems (no programming required).
  • Fluency in English and Dutch; German is an asset.
  • Willingness to travel internationally (approximately 60–80% during commissioning phases).
  • Ability to interpret laboratory results and link them to operational performance.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • A hands‑on, process‑oriented mindset with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Clear communication skills and confidence working with operators and engineering teams.

What We Offer?

At WTT you will work in a collegial, informal and pleasant environment. We offer:

  • A full-time position for 40 hours per week.
  • A competitive monthly salary of EUR 3,500-4,800 based on experience.
  • 30 vacation days with the opportunity to buy up to 40 days.
  • Good employment conditions, including a profit-sharing scheme.
  • An enthusiastic team and enjoyable company outings.

  • The opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a growing global organization.
