Automation Engineer

As an Automation Engineer – Siemens PLC & SCADA, you will be part of a specialised engineering team responsible for developing, maintaining and continuously improving a standardised automation platform. You will work on complete industrial plants, from engineering and software development to testing, commissioning and customer support.

Your challenge

You will do more than develop PLC software. You will translate complex mechanical and biological processes into reliable automation solutions. You will be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial design to successful commissioning and the optimisation of operational plants.

Approximately 15% of your time will involve international travel to commission new plants and support customers on site. You will use the practical experience gained in the field to continuously improve our automation platform.

You will work closely with colleagues from Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering and Electrical Engineering within multidisciplinary project teams.

What will you do?

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing PLC and SCADA software using Siemens TIA Portal and WinCC Unified.
• Configuring, testing and validating industrial automation systems.
• Translating process descriptions and P&IDs into robust PLC logic.
• Performing Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
• Commissioning new plants internationally.
• Supporting customers during start-up and production.
• Analysing practical experience from operational plants and translating this into improvements to the standard automation platform.
• Contributing to the further development and standardisation of software and engineering processes.
• Working with suppliers and external partners where required.
• Troubleshooting and optimising existing plants.

You will not develop new software from scratch for every project. Instead, you will continuously expand and improve a standardised automation platform that is used across multiple projects. This means your work will have a lasting impact on future plants.

Who are you?

You are an engineer who enjoys combining software with industrial technology. You are curious about how complex processes work and enjoy solving technical challenges within multidisciplinary teams.

You understand that good automation goes beyond programming alone. It is about understanding the complete process.

In addition, you have:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics, Industrial Automation, Electrical Engineering or a comparable technical field.
• Experience as an Automation Engineer, PLC Programmer or in a similar role.
• Experience with Siemens TIA Portal.
• Good command of both Dutch and English.
• Willingness to travel internationally for commissioning and support.
• Experience with WinCC Unified or other SCADA platforms is an advantage.

Technical knowledge

You have experience with several of the following technologies:

• Siemens S7-1200 and/or S7-1500 PLCs.
• Siemens TIA Portal.
• WinCC Unified or comparable SCADA systems.
• Industrial networks such as Profinet or Ethernet/IP.
• Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
• Instrumentation and field equipment.
• Process control.
• Alarm management.
• FAT, SAT and commissioning.
• Structured software development.
• Industrial communication protocols.
• Version control, such as Git.
• Experience with Functional Safety is an advantage, but not a requirement.

Als Automation Engineer – Siemens PLC & SCADA maak je deel uit van een gespecialiseerd engineeringteam dat verantwoordelijk is voor het ontwikkelen, onderhouden en continu verbeteren van een gestandaardiseerd automatiseringsplatform. Je werkt aan complete industriële installaties: van engineering en softwareontwikkeling tot testen, inbedrijfstelling en ondersteuning bij klanten.

Jouw uitdaging

Je ontwikkelt niet alleen PLC-software, maar vertaalt complexe mechanische en biologische processen naar betrouwbare automatiseringsoplossingen. Je bent betrokken gedurende de volledige levenscyclus van een project: van het eerste ontwerp tot de succesvolle oplevering en optimalisatie van operationele installaties.

Ongeveer 15% van je tijd reis je internationaal voor het inbedrijfstellen van nieuwe installaties en het ondersteunen van klanten op locatie. De praktijkervaring die je daar opdoet, gebruik je om het automatiseringsplatform continu verder te verbeteren.

Je werkt nauw samen met collega’s uit de disciplines Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering en Electrical Engineering binnen multidisciplinaire projectteams.

Wat ga je doen?

Je werkzaamheden bestaan onder andere uit:

• Ontwikkelen van PLC- en SCADA-software met Siemens TIA Portal en WinCC Unified.
• Configureren, testen en valideren van industriële automatiseringssystemen.
• Vertalen van procesbeschrijvingen en P&ID’s naar robuuste PLC-logica.
• Uitvoeren van Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) en Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
• Internationaal inbedrijfstellen van nieuwe installaties.
• Ondersteunen van klanten tijdens opstart en productie.
• Analyseren van praktijkervaringen en deze verwerken in verbeteringen van het standaard automatiseringsplatform.
• Bijdragen aan de verdere ontwikkeling en standaardisatie van software en engineeringprocessen.
• Samenwerken met leveranciers en externe partners waar nodig.
• Oplossen van storingen en optimaliseren van bestaande installaties.

Je ontwikkelt niet telkens nieuwe software vanaf nul. In plaats daarvan werk je continu aan de verdere uitbreiding en verbetering van een gestandaardiseerd automatiseringsplatform dat wordt toegepast binnen meerdere projecten. Hierdoor heeft jouw werk een blijvende impact op toekomstige installaties.

Wie ben jij?

Je bent een engineer die graag software combineert met industriële techniek. Je bent nieuwsgierig naar hoe complexe processen werken en vindt het leuk om technische uitdagingen op te lossen binnen multidisciplinaire teams.

Je begrijpt dat goede automatisering verder gaat dan programmeren alleen: het draait om het begrijpen van het complete proces.

Daarnaast beschik je over:

• Een afgeronde HBO- of WO-opleiding in Mechatronica, Industriële Automatisering, Elektrotechniek of een vergelijkbare technische richting.
• Ervaring als Automation Engineer, PLC Programmeur of vergelijkbare functie.
• Ervaring met Siemens TIA Portal.
• Goede beheersing van de Nederlandse en Engelse taal.
• Bereidheid om internationaal te reizen voor commissioning en ondersteuning.
• Ervaring met WinCC Unified of andere SCADA-platformen is een pré.

Technische kennis

Je hebt ervaring met meerdere van de onderstaande technologieën:

• Siemens S7-1200 en/of S7-1500 PLC’s.
• Siemens TIA Portal.
• WinCC Unified of vergelijkbare SCADA-systemen.
• Industriële netwerken zoals Profinet of Ethernet/IP.
• Frequentieregelaars (VFD’s).
• Instrumentatie en veldapparatuur.
• Procesbesturing.
• Alarmmanagement.
• FAT, SAT en commissioning.
• Gestructureerde softwareontwikkeling.
• Industriële communicatieprotocollen.
• Versiebeheer (bijvoorbeeld Git).
• Ervaring met Functional Safety is een pré, maar geen vereiste.
