Monumental is automating on-site construction with robotics and software. Our mission is to make construction software-defined and autonomous - a future where beautiful, bespoke buildings go up in a single day, with minimal labour.

We're a growing team of engineers, operators and technicians from companies like Palantir, Qualcomm, Dyson, Shopify, Tesla, Meta and Google DeepMind. It's still the early days of building the company, and this is a chance to make an outsized impact on a problem that matters. From day one, you’ll be working with an experienced founding team.

Monumental is based in the city centre of Amsterdam, in a beautiful facility with a fully equipped workshop and robot testing floor. We build the whole stack in-house - hardware and software - and we're explicitly not a hybrid or remote-first company; you can't build robots or walls from home, so we're onsite five days a week.

About the role

This is the hire that lets us keep the bar high while we scale hard.

Most of the people we want don't apply to job posts, and the roles we most need to fill are the hardest ones - mechanical, mechatronics, electronics, controls and perception engineers, plus genuinely unusual roles that don't have a playbook. You'll own those hires end to end: finding people in unlikely places, running them through the process, reading them accurately, and closing them.

We've deliberately kept this in-house rather than handing it to an agency, because the hard part isn't matching a CV to a job spec; it's judgment about people and protecting our culture as we grow, and you can't outsource that. You'll work directly with our founders and hiring managers, operate with real autonomy, and be trusted to make the call on who clears the bar.

You'll join Dom, who leads recruiting, as a senior partner on the team - not a pair of hands to hand reqs to, but someone who owns their roles, raises how we hire, and makes the whole machine better.

What you'll do

• Own full-cycle hiring for our hardest and most unusual roles: sourcing, assessing, and closing, end to end
• Find and engage talent in unlikely places: personal websites, GitHub, citations, Discord, Substack, YouTube, competitions; you might even vibecode your own sourcing tool, whatever works
• Read people accurately: assess for raw ability, drive, judgment and culture fit, not just a keyword match on their CV. This is the part that matters most
• Partner with founders and hiring managers to deeply understand each role and what "great" actually looks like here
• Give candidates an outstanding experience: anticipate their needs, build genuine rapport, and be the person in their corner all the way to signed
• Raise the bar on how we hire: fix broken process, sharpen our assessment, decide where an external partner is worth it and where it isn't, and make the team better around you

What we're looking for

• You've run full-cycle hiring for tough-to-fill technical roles (hardware, deep tech, or otherwise non-standard) and closed people who had other options
• You have genuinely high standards. You'd rather tell a hiring manager a search is taking longer than put a mediocre candidate in front of them, and you can tell the difference
• You're an excellent judge of people: you can read drive, rawness and culture fit in a conversation, and you protect the bar even under pressure to just fill the seat
• Founders and hiring managers trust you quickly. You earn credibility through competence and consistently doing what you said you would
• Genuine interest in technology: you don't need to be an engineer, but you can hold a semi-technical conversation about what someone builds and why it matters
• Strong written and verbal communication: your outreach gets replies because it's human, specific and thoughtful, and you know how to stand out on a first call
• You take full ownership and operate well in ambiguity. We're scaling fast, priorities shift, process evolves, and you fix what isn't working yourself rather than wait to be told
• You've done this inside a VC-backed startup or scale-up, and you're comfortable being embedded and close to the work, not running a volume desk from arm's length

Nice to have

• Experience hiring in deep tech, robotics or hard-tech
• Familiarity with the European / Dutch startup ecosystem
• Dutch language skills are useful but not a hard requirement
• Experience with Ashby ATS
