Join GÉANT as an International Tax Specialist, applying practical VAT expertise across Europe, supporting audits, and improving cross-border tax processes in a collaborative Finance team.

Role Overview

We’re looking for an International Tax Specialist to support GÉANT’s compliance with indirect tax (VAT) obligations across multiple jurisdictions and contribute to broader international tax activities.

Working within the Finance team and reporting to the Head of Tax, you’ll help ensure accurate tax reporting, effective risk management and audit-ready compliance across a complex international environment. You’ll play an important role in supporting cross-border operations, grant-funded activities and finance processes that enable the organisation to operate confidently across Europe and beyond.

This is a role suited to someone who enjoys combining technical tax knowledge with practical problem-solving, working closely with colleagues across Finance and supporting continuous improvement in a dynamic international organisation.

What You’ll Do

VAT Compliance and Reporting

  • You’ll support the preparation and submission of VAT and indirect tax returns across multiple jurisdictions.
  • You’ll review purchase orders, customer invoices and supplier invoices to help ensure accurate VAT treatment.
  • You’ll support VAT analysis for cross-border services, intra-EU transactions, events and grant-funded projects.
  • You’ll help maintain clear and auditable documentation to support tax filings and tax positions.

Direct Tax Support

  • You’ll support corporate tax compliance activities, including tax computations and filings.
  • You’ll assist with international tax matters such as permanent establishments, transfer pricing support and employee mobility-related tax issues.
  • You’ll work closely with external advisers and consultants on jurisdiction-specific tax matters.

Financial Control and Compliance

  • You’ll reconcile VAT accounts to the general ledger.
  • You’ll support monthly, quarterly and annual tax reporting activities.
  • You’ll prepare tax documentation for internal review, statutory audits and external reporting requirements.
  • You’ll support audit processes by providing tax analysis, explanations and supporting evidence.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • You’ll work closely with Finance Operations to support accurate tax treatment in accounting systems.
  • You’ll collaborate with Business Intelligence on VAT-related reporting and analysis.
  • You’ll provide practical tax guidance to Finance, Procurement and operational teams.
  • You’ll act as a point of contact for tax-related queries across the organisation.

Process Improvement and Tax Governance

  • You’ll help monitor changes in VAT and tax legislation across the UK, Netherlands and wider EU.
  • You’ll identify opportunities to improve tax processes, controls and documentation.
  • You’ll contribute to finance system enhancements that support tax accuracy and reporting.
  • You’ll build a strong understanding of GÉANT’s operations, finance processes and tax environment.

About You

We’re open to candidates from a range of backgrounds. You may not have worked in a role exactly like this before, but you should be able to demonstrate many of the skills, experience and capabilities needed to succeed.

Please consider the responsibilities of the role carefully and how your experience aligns with the following areas:

  • B1 Level Dutch
  • Experience working with VAT, indirect tax or international tax compliance activities.
  • Experience supporting the preparation or review of tax filings and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of VAT principles and their practical application.
  • Experience working with financial data, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to review transactions and identify appropriate tax treatment.
  • Confidence in working with colleagues across finance and operational teams.
  • Experience supporting audit activity or responding to compliance requirements.
  • Good judgement when balancing compliance obligations with operational needs.
  • An organised approach to managing deadlines, documentation and competing priorities.

Experience That Could Be Beneficial

The following experience could be helpful, but is not required for every candidate:

  • Experience in a multinational or multi-jurisdictional environment.
  • Exposure to corporate tax compliance activities.
  • Familiarity with transfer pricing, permanent establishments or employee mobility-related tax matters.
  • Experience supporting grant-funded projects.
  • Experience working with finance systems, reporting tools or process improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of EU VAT regulations and cross-border transactions.

We recognise that people build experience in different ways and do not expect candidates to meet every point listed above. If your background aligns with many of these areas and you’re interested in the opportunity, we’d like to hear from you.

Working Arrangements

We have adopted a flexible-hybrid model which means that employees will work flexibly between a remote and office environment. Weekly visits to the office are required for most employees to support our values and collaborative culture and enable our teams to deliver great work. For this role we anticipate that you may be required in the office for around 2 days per week.

There may also be occasional travel.
