Are you a strategic leader with a passion for portfolio management and Data & AI? Do you thrive in a complex stakeholder environment where you can help shape the future of Data & AI across the bank?

ABN AMRO is transforming its Central Data Office into the Central Data & AI Office (CDAO), a central enabling organization with a formal mandate for governance, standards, orchestration, and expertise in Data & AI. The CDAO plays a critical role in supporting the bank's transition to a value-stream operating model and ensuring scalable, compliant, and value-driven Data & AI capabilities.

Within the new Data & AI Governance & Portfolio department, ABN AMRO is looking for an experienced Head of Portfolio Office. The department acts as the enterprise steering function for Data & AI.

Your job

You will build and lead ABN AMRO's Data & AI Portfolio Office as the enterprise steering function for Data & AI. Your mission is to provide one integrated view across priorities, investments, dependencies and delivery progress. This to enable leadership to make informed trade-offs and better strategic decisions. Beyond managing the portfolio, you will transform the function into a trusted decision-support capability that increases transparency, improves prioritisation and helps accelerate the execution of ABN AMRO's Data & AI strategy. Together with your team, you will provide management information, business management support (incl. consulting) and portfolio management required to support decision-making at the highest levels of the organisation, including DataCo and the Executive Board.

Key responsibilities

Leadership

  • Lead, coach and develop a multidisciplinary team of portfolio managers, consultants and business support professionals.
  • Build a high-performing team culture characterised by ownership, accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear priorities, empower people to take ownership and ensure delivery of tangible outcomes.
  • Act as a trusted leadership partner within the CDAO management team, Data Domain Leadership and contribute to the broader development of the Data & AI organisation.

Portfolio Steering

  • Own and lead the bank-wide Data & AI portfolio management capability, ensuring alignment between strategic priorities and execution, in alignment with bank-wide processes such as Annual Business Review (ABR) and Quarterly Portfolio Reviews (QPR).
  • Facilitate portfolio dialogues and drive transparency on priorities, bottlenecks and trade-offs to support informed decision-making.
  • Challenge stakeholders constructively to ensure resources are focused on the initiatives that create the greatest value for the bank.
  • Act as Secretary to the Group Data Committee (DataCo) and support effective governance and follow-through of decisions.

Management Information & Reporting

  • Ensure leadership has timely, accurate and actionable management information on progress, risks, dependencies and value realisation.
  • Drive the integrated Data & AI reporting cycle, in alignment with bank-wide processes such as Annual Business Review (ABR) and Quarterly Portfolio Reviews (QPR).
  • Translate complex portfolio data into clear insights and recommendations for senior leadership, DataCo and Executive and Supervisory Board.

Continuous Improvement & Transformation

  • Lead the evolution of the Portfolio Office towards an enterprise portfolio steering capability.
  • Drive improvements in portfolio management practices, reporting standards, governance processes and ways of working with the aim to keep it lean & mean.
  • Foster a culture that focuses on outcomes, decision quality and value creation rather than process.

Working environment

The Portfolio Office is part of the Governance & Portfolio department within the Central Data & AI Office (CDAO). The CDAO is at the heart of ABN AMRO's Data & AI transformation. The organization establishes governance, standards, portfolio management, implementation support, product management, AI enablement, and value realization capabilities across the bank. You will operate in a highly dynamic environment where business, data, technology, risk, and AI come together. We work in an Agile setting that values collaboration, ownership, transparency, learning, and continuous improvement. This is an opportunity to help shape one of the most important enterprise-wide transformations within the bank and make a visible impact on how Data & AI create value across ABN AMRO.

Your profile

  • Master's degree or equivalent level of thinking and working.
  • Proven experience leading and developing teams in complex environments.
  • Extensive experience in portfolio management and agile methods and rituals, preferably with ABN AMRO or financial industry portfolio and reporting processes.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience engaging and influencing senior leaders and executive-level governance forums.
  • Strong understanding of Data, Analytics and AI, and the role these capabilities play in driving business value and transformation.
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to create alignment across diverse stakeholder groups across departments to achieve shared outcomes.

We are offering

Joining this role means stepping into a position with impact, supported by employment conditions that foster job satisfaction, development, and wellbeing.

  • Five “Banking for better days”: extra days off that you can use for personal development or volunteer work.
  • Personal development is key: you receive a development budget of €1,000 per year, which can accumulate up to €3,000.
