Challenging Position at IBFD's Knowledge Centre

IBFD is the leading international provider of cross-border tax expertise. An independent, non-profit foundation, IBFD’s core business is research, publishing (online and print) and education in international taxation. All IBFD products are accessible through IBFD’s Tax Research Platform. The IBFD Knowledge Centre is home to most of the tax specialists within IBFD. It is a publications and research department with staff engaged in updating and reviewing IBFD’s publications, conducting research in international tax, and lecturing on various tax topics.

VAT Specialist (Senior Associate)

The Value Added Tax Specialist Group is part of IBFD’s Knowledge Centre. This department is responsible for covering tax developments on VAT, and selected indirect taxes across the world in news reports, detailed country tax guides, case law summaries and dossiers.

The Senior VAT Associate will be responsible for the timely and accurate management and editing of a selection of VAT publications. The Senior Associate will also help develop policies to maintain and ensure a unified and seamless technical and editorial process with respect to the VAT publications. In addition, the VAT Specialist will be involved in developing new digital products and services. In this role, the Senior Associate will work closely with other team members specialized in VAT, as well as with Managers and staff of the various Knowledge Groups within the IBFD Knowledge Centre and other stakeholders within IBFD. The Senior Associate will report to the Manager of the VAT, Transfer Pricing and Specialist Knowledge Group.

Main responsibilities

  • Tax technical management of VAT research portfolios, including responsibility for quality assurance of all research output of freelancers, and achieving all publishing deliverables for the portfolio
  • Review and edit VAT publications
  • Conduct tax research into relevant areas of VAT law (international and domestic)
  • Conduct tax training sessions for IBFD’s clients
  • Design tax courses (online and face-to-face)
  • Assist with other publications on an ad hoc basis and answer questions about the content
  • Prepare technical notes, articles, surveys, updates, and other analytical material
  • Assist with developing new electronic products in the area of VAT/GST/sales taxes
  • Project management
  • Relationship-building and relationship management for authors, correspondents, and allied organisations
  • Participate in client requests
  • Train and supervise junior associates

Requirements

  • University degree in law, accounting, economics or another relevant area (an LLM or other postgraduate degree in international tax is an advantage)
  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in domestic and international indirect tax law with a strong knowledge of EU VAT
  • Solid tax policy experience
  • Keen interest in and experience with data analytics or affinity with tax technology solutions
  • Native or equivalent command of the English language (knowledge of other languages will be an advantage)
  • Experience gained from working in a tax administration, ministry of finance, or relevant international organisation is a distinct advantage
