Become an intern at TNO and contribute to the development of an international eSAF hub in Northeast Brazil, with direct impact on decarbonising aviation and accelerating the hydrogen economy.
About this position
This internship focuses on the development of an international eSAF hub in Northeast Brazil, with direct impact on decarbonising aviation and accelerating the hydrogen economy. Together with our team, you will explore how an international sustainable aviation fuel value chain can be successfully developed and contribute to solutions that support investment, international collaboration and the energy transition. You will join an environment where curiosity is encouraged, new ideas are valued and you have the opportunity to develop both your technical expertise and professional skills.
What will be your role?
During this internship, you will contribute to an international public-private project aimed at developing a port-based eSAF hub in Brazil. Together, we will define the exact research question, which may focus on value chain development, business cases, logistics, market development, investment risks or policy challenges. You will use systems analysis, data analysis, literature research and interviews with Dutch and Brazilian stakeholders to gain insights into the development of the eSAF value chain. You will translate your findings into a master's thesis, an analytical model or decision-support framework, and concrete recommendations for the international project consortium. Along the way, you will develop skills in value chain analysis, scenario development, stakeholder analysis and strategic advisory work. You will collaborate with international partners from industry, government and research organisations, while having ample opportunity to shape your own research direction.
What we expect from you
We are looking for an entrepreneurial master's student in, for example, Engineering and Policy Analysis, Complex Systems Engineering and Management, Sustainable Energy Technology, Industrial Ecology, or a related field. You have an interest in energy transitions, hydrogen, sustainable fuels and international value chains. Experience with modelling, scenario analysis, Python, R, MATLAB or System Dynamics is an advantage, but most importantly you are eager to learn new analytical methods and apply them to real-world challenges. You are analytical, proactive and able to work independently, while also enjoying collaboration with colleagues and international stakeholders. The internship preferably lasts six months, with the exact start date to be agreed upon. During the internship, you will have plenty of opportunities to further develop your skills in strategic analysis, international collaboration, stakeholder engagement and applied research within a multidisciplinary team.
What you'll get in return
An internship at TNO means working in an environment where substance and impact are central. You will become part of a knowledge organisation where research and practice come together, and where experts collaborate on solutions to current societal and technological challenges.
Your internship is a period in which you can discover what suits you, where your strengths lie and what you would like to learn next. You are part of a professional working environment, gain insight into how things work in practice, and have the opportunity to build experience that goes beyond this internship alone. For many students, an internship is therefore also a first step in discovering whether TNO could be a potential next step after graduation.
