At Eneco, you contribute to the energy transition by advising on the management of financial commodity risks related to green assets, purchasing and sales for the customer portfolio, and trading activities. You act as a sparring partner for the business and management, working together with commodity and credit analysts toward an optimal risk/return ratio for Eneco.

Why choose Eneco?

The energy transition is in full swing and Eneco is leading the way. Our goal is to be fully climate-neutral by 2035. This applies not only to our own business activities, but also to the energy we supply to our customers. For example, we develop wind and solar farms ourselves, and we help customers take sustainable steps every day with smart products and good advice.

  • Shape commodity risk decisions at the heart of the energy transition
  • Advise senior stakeholders and influence strategic business decisions
  • Work independently on high-impact deals, assets and trading activities

What you’ll do

As Commodity Risk Management Specialist, you provide advice on the mitigation of price and volume risks and approve Eneco commodity contracts. This includes power purchase agreements, tolling agreements, wind and solar assets, and customer deals. You do this by developing commodity hedge proposals together with the Trade department and carrying out risk assessments for business cases involving new activities and products.

You participate in the execution of periodic stress tests and sensitivity analyses for Eneco in the area of commodity risks. Your analytical and programming skills enable you to keep the Financial Risk Management risk models up to date.

In addition, you monitor mandates and limits and, if necessary, escalate to the Commodity Risk Team and CFO. You also participate in designing and setting up the commodity risk management policy and mandates for the various business units of Eneco.

Is this about you?

You work together as one team to deliver the plan. You create an atmosphere in which insights and opinions can be exchanged with colleagues, and you take accountability for contributing to the common plan. In addition, the following is important:

  • You have a relevant completed Master degree such as Econometrics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative or technical discipline;
  • Knowledge of and experience with Financial Risk Management methods and techniques is a plus;
  • At least 3 years experience in a quantitative commodity risk function;
  • Knowledge of and experience in the Dutch energy market is a plus;
  • You possess strong analytical skills, can quickly get to the root cause of a problem, and are able to think along with solutions;
  • You work accurately and have a proactive and solution-oriented attitude. You can also cope well with change;
  • You have good communication skills, are persuasive, and are a team player;
  • Knowledge of Matlab and/or Python is a plus.

While this role typically requires around three years of relevant experience, we’re more interested in your potential than a number on your CV. If you have less experience but are confident you can make an impact in this role, we’d love to hear from you.

You’ll be responsible for

As Commodity Risk Specialist you will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing and approving new contracts and business proposals, such as purchasing contracts or new customer propositions, by participating in deal teams and similar settings;
  • Being the first point of contact for the Business Units for risk advice;
  • Ensuring that activities are carried out within the mandate agreements and keeping the mandates up to date so that the organization can continue to develop;
  • Maintaining and further developing the risk models within FRM;
  • Reviewing and/or validating the most important reports of Eneco Energy Trade.

This is where you’ll work

You will become part of the Group Financial Risk Management team within Corporate Finance, Risk & Compliance. The team consists of experienced Credit and Commodity Risk Analysts, with whom you will collaborate on both strategic and operational matters. Your role is positioned independently within the organization, enabling you to provide advice and reporting to senior stakeholders, including Leadership Teams and the Management Board.

If you thrive in an environment driven by ambition, collaboration, and a shared commitment to achieving climate goals, you will fit right in at Eneco.
