Make your mark as a Geotechnical Engineer at Boskalis.

As a Geotechnical Engineer, you will be part of Hydronamic, the Boskalis in-house design and engineering department. The department has over 80 specialist engineers from a broad range of design disciplines and provides state-of-the-art, tailor-made engineering solutions for large-scale hydraulic and civil engineering projects within the worldwide Boskalis portfolio.

We are looking for a talented and forward-thinking Geotechnical Engineer with a passion for digitalization and innovation to join our team. In this role, you will not only apply your geotechnical expertise but also lead the transformation of our digital workflows.

Boskalis values and actively supports our in-house citizen developers, who combine their expertise with Python programming knowledge through a Python community of more than 250 colleagues to build apps with immediate business value.

As the go-to person for your colleagues, you will bridge the gap between engineering needs and digital innovation. You will design, develop, use and maintain the business logic of our applications together with colleagues who share the same drive and persistence. Your work will help optimize processes, improve data handling, and empower both you and your colleagues to make better, faster decisions – ultimately shaping the future of how we work.

Examples of current developments

  • Our internally developed numerical calculation kernel for settlements
  • A data-driven approach on sheetpile installation predictions, directly implemented in projects
  • Cooperating with our in-house AI department on applying generative AI in geotechnical engineering

What do we promise?

  • Plenty of room for personal development
  • Contributing to one-of-a-kind projects
  • Not your average 9-to-5

What do we ask of you?

  • Communication
  • Analytical thinking
  • Taking initiative

Your responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for digital solutions within the geotechnical engineering team.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, data management and analysis.
  • Translate engineering needs into blueprints for new tools.
  • Develop, test, evaluate, and refine applications for optimal usability and performance.
  • Provide training and guidance to colleagues on new tools and digital systems.

Your qualities and experience

You can move ahead as a geotechnical engineer if you have:

  • At least 3–5 years’ relevant work experience.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering / Applied Earth Science (or similar) with specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge of Python.
  • A good command of written and spoken English; Dutch is a pre.

We offer

  • A dynamic environment: A job that allows you to collaborate with a talented team of experts from different backgrounds and contribute to making a significant impact.
  • Rewarding conditions: A competitive salary and much more, including holiday allowance, holiday entitlement of 26 days based on a full-time contract and a number of collective scheduled days off, a non-contributory pension scheme, collective schemes such as company health insurance, travel allowance, leased or shared car, and foreign posting terms.
  • Career development: Plenty of opportunities to bring out the best in yourself, for example through online courses at our Boskalis Academy.

Extra information

  • Your team: You will join the geotechnical team within Hydronamic, consisting of nearly 30 engineers, working on dredging and reclamation projects all over the world and on dike and road infrastructure projects in the Netherlands and Belgium. It’s a diverse team with a strong technical reputation, with colleagues who are always willing to help and learn from each other, and who understand that their decisions have a direct impact on our projects.

Boskalis is a leading global dredging contractor and marine services provider. We provide innovative and competitive all-round solutions to our clients in the offshore energy sector, ports, coastal and delta regions. We offer a unique combination of experts, vessels and services while maintaining the highest safety and sustainability standards. Our head office is located in Papendrecht, the Netherlands.
