Front-end IT Engineer Innovation

We're looking for an Front End IT Engineer within the Innovation department who operates at the forefront of technological developments in the banking industry. Do you like working in multidisciplinary teams where you can design, develop and test innovative propositions and processes, and translate them into scalable, secure, and compliant production systems if proven successful? Are you able to focus on the front-end of the various applications, but also contribute to more generic / back-end work if and when the job-to-be-done so requires? Then we're looking for you.

Currently there are three focus domains in the Innovation Department: Digital Assets, AI and Embedded Banking, all exploring the use of emerging technologies with a prominent role of (agentic) AI. In your front-end engineering expertise you will support all three domains and play a vital role in launching innovations.

We have two vacancies, one for the iOS and one for the Android ecosystem.

Your job

In your job you...

• focus on developing mobile applications for iOS or Android and will act as the de-facto domain expert for the broader team. Additionally, you help in Web Frontend and / or Backend development areas if needed.
• take ownership of the more complex front-end components and features.
• are willing and able to contribute to more generic development work and architectural decisions. You ensure high standards in performance, accessibility, security, and code quality. You are involved throughout the full development lifecycle as the situation requires: from refinement and design to delivery and production support.
• collaborate closely with backend engineers, product owners and UX designers, translating designs into functional components and ensuring flawless user experiences. You work hand-in-hand with teams responsible for maintaining APIs from which our applications source their content.
• actively contribute to improving development standards, testing strategies, and tooling.
• support and mentor less experienced developers within the team, especially on front-end topics.

You will join a collaborative team of innovators, AI specialists and IT engineers who explore, build and scale innovative banking solutions and processes. We work as a self-organizing, multidisciplinary Agile team. The team balances fast experimentation with the reliability required for secure, production-ready financial capabilities.

• Product experts and innovation teams
• Client Units and our challenger banks to validate demand and shape solutions
• Legal, Information Security, Compliance and Risk
• Engineers across ABN AMRO who work on integration and platform foundations

Your profile

You are an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and building high-quality, scalable IT systems. You communicate clearly, challenge ideas when needed and stay calm and structured in exploratory environments. You enjoy learning new tools and languages and are interested in the broader banking industry.

You bring:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
• At least five years of experience and thorough knowledge of Swift and iOS development, or Kotlin and Android development
• A clear vision on the future of mobile development
• Capacitor plugins development experience
• SDK development experience
• Experience working with API specifications (API First)
• Familiarity with CI/CD, Git and Azure DevOps
• Web development with Vue.js and TypeScript experience or willingness to learn
• Java Spring Boot Backend API development experience or willingness to learn
• In-depth expertise in areas such as architectural principles, testing methodologies, security risks, continuous delivery, and cloud infrastructure
• A proactive approach to improving code quality, reliability and engineering practices
