Would you like to contribute to the logistics performance of leading airports such as Schiphol, Heathrow, and other major airports around the world? Do you enjoy building systems together with enthusiastic team members who handle Hardware and Controls in an efficient way? Are you interested in tooling and supporting global teams in making the right design decisions when standard products do not fully meet customer requirements? Then this Senior PLC Engineer role in our Airports Engineering team may be for you, supporting projects on a global scale.

About the team

Within Engineering, you are the colleague responsible for making engineering easier through standardized products, processes, and smart tooling. Together with Technology and Engineering teams, you advise and support multiple projects where deviations from standard products are required to meet customer needs. You ensure these solutions are made available in our standard generation tooling.

Based on project experiences and products from Technology, you translate project requirements into a multidisciplinary decomposition and implement the required functionality in the project library and tooling. You take ownership of the developments carried out and support on-site commissioning activities and final testing.

We expect you to focus on project requirements as well as cost of execution and serviceability. In addition, you advise and support project teams in setting up engineering environments to ensure systems are delivered in a controlled manner, with the right quality standards and ready for handover to Service teams. For this, Vanderlande uses Atlassian and Polarion tooling.

Your profile

  • Successfully completed HBO (Higher Professional Education) in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, Computer Science, or Controls Technology.
  • This vacancy is intended for senior engineers.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Proactive, pragmatic, and hands-on attitude.
  • Ability to provide feedback and best practices to improve products.
  • Strong communication skills, including regular progress reporting.
  • Experience creating and improving standard ways of working.
  • Comfortable working with different departments and project locations.
  • Experience managing deadlines and milestones.
  • Knowledge of and experience with PLC applications (TIA Portal).
  • Strong interest in productivity tooling used for software generation based on XML input files.
  • Willingness to work regularly for extended periods abroad (up to 50% of your time).
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good command of the English language.

You will report to the Project Manager Engineering within the Airports Engineering department. The Airports Engineering department consists of engineering teams across several locations in Europe and the Middle East. Support will be provided to projects at multiple locations. Travel may be required depending on project demands.
