As an Information Security Engineer, you are responsible for implementing, integrating and continuously improving technical security controls across the enterprise IT landscape, helping the organisation strengthen core cyber hygiene and improve resilience.

What you will do as an Information Security Engineer

In this function you ensure that security controls are effective, measurable and embedded in daily IT operations, in close collaboration with IT Operations & Services and external providers.

Key responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain technical security controls across endpoint, infrastructure, network, identity and hybrid/cloud-connected environments.
  • Strengthen core cyber hygiene, including hardening, patching, logging, privileged access and secure configuration.
  • Improve detection capability, telemetry quality and managed detection reporting.
  • Contribute to IAM improvements and technical control effectiveness across the IT landscape.
  • Support vulnerability management and risk-based remediation.
  • Translate security standards and policies into practical technical implementation.
  • Work closely with IT Operations, architecture and external partners to ensure secure operational delivery.
  • Identify control gaps and help define measurable improvement actions and KPIs.

Where you will work

At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology.

As our new Information Security Engineer, you will become part of the corporate group Digital & Workplace Solutions (DWS) in the Netherlands. DWS provides services to the internal organisation, enabling colleagues to serve their clients in the best possible way.

DWS’s activities are divided across three domains: Enterprise IT & Services, Real Estate & Facility, and Digital & AI. In addition, there is a separate team for information security. The structure of DWS was recently reorganised to allow the three domains to come into their own more effectively. As a result, several new roles have been created, including that of Information Security Engineer.

This role will be part of the Information Security team, which we are building to professionalise cyber security and significantly increase organisational maturity. The team works closely with IT Operations & Service Management, architecture, external providers, business stakeholders and Risk & Compliance to improve cyber fundamentals, detection and response, and practical control implementation.

What you will bring

  • Solid hands-on experience in security engineering, infrastructure security or enterprise cyber operations.
  • Experience in complex enterprise environments and collaboration with outsourced service providers.
  • Strong understanding of modern technical controls, monitoring, identity-related controls and secure configuration.
  • Pragmatic, solution-oriented and comfortable operating in a small senior team with broad responsibility.
  • Able to explain technical security topics in clear English and Dutch.

Education and certifications

  • Completed relevant education (Bachelor's degree) in cyber security, computer science or information technology.
  • Certifications such as Security+, CISSP, AZ-500, SC-200, SC-300, CCSP or equivalent are preferred.
  • Knowledge of technical control implementation, detection use cases and enterprise IT security practices.

What we offer you

You will join a newly established team with the mandate to make visible technical security improvements across the enterprise environment. This role offers a high degree of ownership, close collaboration with IT and the opportunity to help professionalise cyber security in a practical way.
