The Enterprise Architect defines and governs the enterprise-wide IT architecture, ensuring that technology choices support the business strategy and contribute to a coherent, secure, scalable, and future-proof IT landscape.

This is a new function within Digital & Workplace Solutions (DWS). It translates strategic direction into architecture principles, standards, and roadmaps, and safeguards consistency across business lines, digital capabilities, enterprise IT services, data, AI, and information security.

In this newly established role, the Enterprise Architect will play a critical role in bringing coherence and direction to a fragmented landscape, enabling faster, better-informed decision-making and ensuring that technology investments structurally contribute to long-term business value, resilience and scalability.

What you will do as Enterprise Architect

Key responsibilities:

  • Define, own and drive the enterprise-wide IT architecture vision, principles and multi-year roadmap.
  • Translate business strategy into clear architecture guardrails, target states and actionable roadmaps.
  • Maintain a holistic and forward-looking view of the IT landscape across applications, infrastructure, integrations, data, AI and security.
  • Govern architectural coherence, standardisation, reuse and simplification across the organisation.
  • Establish and lead the DWS Architecture Board and contribute to enterprise-level governance bodies.
  • Review and challenge major initiatives, designs and investments on architectural fit, sustainability and risk.
  • Ensure alignment between Business Lines and DWS on enterprise-wide technology direction and priorities.
  • Enable structured decision-making by clarifying trade-offs, dependencies and long-term impact.
  • Act as senior advisor to DWS MT and senior stakeholders on strategic technology topics.
  • Bridge strategy and execution by connecting architecture vision to operational reality and delivery constraints.

Where you will work

At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology.

As our new Enterprise Architect, you will become part of the corporate group Digital & Workplace Solutions (DWS) in the Netherlands. DWS provides services to the internal organisation, enabling colleagues to serve their clients in the best possible way.

DWS’s activities are divided across three domains: Enterprise IT & Services, Real Estate & Facility, and Digital & AI. In addition, there is a separate team for information security. The structure of DWS was recently reorganised to allow the three domains to come into their own more effectively. As a result, several new roles have been created, including that of Enterprise Architect. This role will be part of Enterprise IT & Services.

What you bring

  • 10–15+ years of experience in IT, architecture and digital transformation within complex organisations
  • Proven track record in enterprise architecture, including defining and governing architecture at scale
  • Strong ability to translate strategy into practical, implementable architecture direction
  • Broad and deep IT knowledge across enterprise domains (applications, data, AI, security, cloud, integrations, infrastructure)
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills at senior leadership level
  • Strong conceptual thinker combined with pragmatic decision-making ability
  • Able to communicate complex topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experienced in balancing standardisation with business flexibility and innovation
  • Credible advisor with the ability to build alignment across organisational boundaries
  • Strong understanding of engineering environments and business operations

Education and certifications

  • Master’s degree level of thinking and working, preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Relevant enterprise architecture certification is preferred (e.g. TOGAF or equivalent)

What you can expect from us

This is a key enterprise role with strategic impact on the organisation’s future technology landscape. You will operate at the intersection of business and IT, shaping decision-making, driving coherence and enabling scalable digital growth. As this is a newly established function, you will have the mandate and visibility to define architecture governance, influence major investments and structurally improve the quality and consistency of technology decisions across the organisation.
