HVAC Expert

Are you the technical expert who truly understands complex HVAC challenges and knows how to bring others along? At Basic-Fit, we are strengthening our Center of Excellence (CoE) at our international headquarters in Hoofddorp with an HVAC Expert. From an independent position, you will advise our Construction and Maintenance teams and ensure that our climate installations across Europe perform at their best: for the comfort of millions of members and staff, for our business results, and for a sustainable future.

This Is What Your Role Looks Like

As our HVAC Expert, you are the technical backbone of Basic-Fit’s Center of Excellence. No two days are the same: one day you’re reviewing HVAC designs for a new club under construction, the next you’re on-site diagnosing a climate issue that’s affecting member comfort. You work independently, advising both our Construction and Maintenance teams, and you play a key role in ensuring our clubs stay comfortable, energy-efficient and compliant across multiple countries.

Your Responsibilities

Your role covers two main areas: design and installation of new clubs, and management and optimisation of the existing portfolio. In both areas, you are the technical conscience of Basic-Fit.

• Reviewing and assessing HVAC plans for technical accuracy, completeness and compliance with the Basic-Fit standard: calculating and validating capacities, pipe diameters, air velocities and flow rates.
• Assessing quotations against the technical plan and specification: evaluating materials, brands, pricing and estimated labour hours, and formally approving the quote.
• Monitoring installation progress during the construction phase and conducting the technical handover, including a completion report and transfer to Facility Management.
• Carrying out HVAC inspections at clubs with reported climate issues or system failures: identifying root causes and guiding the resolution process.
• Conducting spot-check maintenance audits across the portfolio.
• Advising Construction and Facility Management on larger HVAC replacements or modifications, including scope, design, technical execution and pricing.

Who Are You?

You combine hands-on technical depth with an independent, critical mindset. You spot issues early, translate insights into concrete recommendations and communicate complex technical matters clearly to non-technical stakeholders. You are comfortable in an international, project-driven environment and willing to travel within Europe when on-site inspections are required.

Additionally, we’re looking for someone who is:

• At least 5–8 years of experience in the design, installation and/or management of HVAC systems in complex, large-scale environments (retail, leisure, healthcare or similar).
• Minimum bachelor’s level education in mechanical engineering, building services, construction or a comparable field.
• In-depth knowledge of air conditioning systems, ventilation systems (flow rates, CO₂ control), heating installations and building management systems (BMS).
• Broad market knowledge of relevant brands and suppliers; able to advise independently, not tied to specific manufacturers.
• Experience with European standards and regulations in ventilation, refrigeration and energy performance of buildings.
• Excellent command of English (professional level); knowledge of Dutch, French, Spanish or German is an advantage.
