We are seeking an experienced applied science manager or director with a specialized focus on HD mapmaking and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). If you are passionate about leveraging recent advancements in AI to enhance mapping technologies and contribute to the evolution of ADAS, we want to hear from you. This role requires a seasoned professional with a strong background in AI, leading applied science and engineering teams, driving innovation, and delivering scalable solutions.

What you'll do

  • Lead and manage a team of Applied Scientists, Data Scientists, Software Engineers, ML Engineers dedicated to developing cutting-edge solutions for HD map making and ADAS applications.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative environment that encourages cross-functional cooperation within the team.
  • Define a compelling long-term vision based on the specific needs of our mapping and ADAS technologies.
  • Translate the vision into engineering roadmaps, guiding the team to deliver high-impact solutions.
  • Act as a technical supervisor, providing insights into scientific direction and technical design documents.
  • Steer development efforts to ensure alignment with the overall vision and optimize project delivery.
  • Recruit and develop top talent, offering technical and career development guidance to scientists and engineers.
  • Drive innovation within the team, pushing the boundaries of autonomy for both online and offline solutions.
  • Serve as a practitioner and thought leader, contributing to the team's technical excellence.

What you'll need

  • Proven experience in building scalable AI/ML systems ideally in map making, autonomy or robotics.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and/or C++, and programming tools and deep learning frameworks.
  • An in-depth understanding of sensor data processing and multimodal sensor fusion, especially in working with Cameras and LiDAR.
  • Leadership experience in managing large teams of engineers and scientists, people managers.
  • Track record of hiring and mentoring engineers, with a successful history of developing junior members in their career.
  • PhD in Computer Science or related fields with a focus on Machine Learning.

Meet your team

We are the ADAS & ADS Product Unit, leading the production of TomTom’s HD maps and ADAS technology. In a diverse team of applied scientists, engineers, data scientists, and more, equipped with a broad array of expertise, you’ll collaborate on groundbreaking location-based technologies and applications. More specifically, you’ll be at the forefront of the creation of advanced HD maps. You’ll also help update these in real-time, ensuring our maps are pushing the world forward instantly. These maps will then go on to empower the largest car manufacturers, transportation giants, and major tech companies around the world.
