Global Accounting Intern

We are seeking a highly motivated intern to join our Global Accounting Team. The internship will focus on providing a valuable learning experience while supporting the team in various initiatives. As the Global Accounting Intern, you will have the opportunity to learn about the accounting processes in SNV and you will be part of the global accounting support team (approx. 4 FTEs), finance department, located in The Hague, the Netherlands.

The global accounting team is responsible for driving continuous improvements to SNV’s financial accounting, administration and reporting, ensuring compliance with donor, regulatory, and SNV requirements and producing integer, transparent, complete and accurate financial data. Therefore, the team develops, implements, and maintains the financial policies and procedures, as well as monitors and improves the processes for accounting and administration in SNV’s ERP system SAP Business ByDesign (SBD) in compliance with the Dutch General Accounting Principles. This includes the chart of accounts and the accounting processes related to purchase-to-pay, order-to-cash, and record-to-report.

The Global Accounting Team:

  • Supports country and project finance teams with the implementation and execution of daily financial accounting activities and processes, and financial reporting.
  • Guides and coaches country finance teams in periodic closings of their financial accounting records, performs financial checks, and reviews balances after the monthly close, extensive closes and year-end close.
  • Provides advice on issues relating to project audits, minimising ineligible costs.
  • Drives capacity building of country finance teams through trainings, support, review, and feedback.
  • Identifies and proposes solutions to solve potential financial risks as well as ensures learning and feedback on relevant issues throughout the accounting cycle and across the organisation with a view to continuous improvement.
  • Coordinates the global audit of all 20+ countries and consolidates the annual accounts of SNV.

This internship offers a unique chance to:

  • Gain experience in the development sector by working on real-world tasks and projects.
  • Receive mentorship from experienced professionals in a dynamic team environment.
  • Develop skills in accounting, communication, and international collaboration.
  • Contribute to impactful work that makes a difference.

Your tasks will be tailored to align with your learning goals, providing a meaningful experience. We will offer guidance and support to help you reach your objectives.

Tasks and activities may include:

  • Support in month-end close and extensive close processes.
  • Support in the interim global audit.
  • Support in intercompany reconciliations.
  • Support in updating the bank directories and suppliers master data in SBD for selected countries.
  • Support the Global Accounting team in other accounting processes and contribute to their improvement.

To be considered for this role, you need to be enrolled in higher education for the entire internship in a relevant field.

To qualify for this internship, we ask for the following requirements:

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program at an accredited EU university with a focus on Accounting or Finance, and able to provide a certificate of enrolment.
