About the Role

As a Mechanical Engineer in Opmeer, you will join a small, highly specialized team at JBT Marel’s location focusing on duck and turkey processing solutions. You’ll work at the heart of a niche but critical domain, where your designs directly contribute to advanced food processing solutions used worldwide.

In this role, you combine hands-on engineering with creativity, translating customer needs into practical mechanical solutions. Your work will mainly focus on adapting and upgrading existing machine platforms, while also contributing to selective new product development. With a team of just six engineers, you’ll enjoy high ownership, short communication lines, and real impact on both customer projects and product improvements.

What You’ll Do

In your day-to-day work, you will design and improve mechanical solutions that form part of complete poultry processing lines.

  • Customize and adapt existing machines to meet specific customer requirements
  • Upgrade and optimize current equipment, mainly for duck and turkey processing, to improve performance, hygiene, and reliability
  • Design mechanical components, assemblies, and layouts using Autodesk Inventor
  • Contribute to new product development and continuous improvement of machine platforms
  • Integrate machines into complete production lines, considering cleaning, maintenance, and operational use
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including drawings and BOMs
  • Collaborate closely with layout and software engineers to deliver fully integrated solutions

In short, you will turn engineering ideas into robust, efficient, and production-ready machinery that keeps JBT Marel at the forefront of poultry processing technology.

What You Bring

  • Hold a degree within engineering such as mechanical, mechatronics or other technical fields
  • Experience in engineering of technical systems, preferably within the food or machine building industry
  • Have experience with drawing tools, databases, and programming for preparation of documentation
  • Are familiar with Inventor CAD and PDM/PLM tools
  • Experience with technical documentation, drawing tools and engineering databases
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal)
  • Team player, comfortable in multidisciplinary and international environments
  • The role includes occasional travel (approx. 5–10%)

Nice to Have

  • Experience in food processing or hygienic machine design
  • Familiarity with production line integration
  • Experience working in project-based engineering environments
