About Ahold Delhaize

We’re Ahold Delhaize, one of the world’s largest food retail groups. Together with our seventeen strong local retail brands in Europe, the United States, and Indonesia, we share a passion for delivering great food, value and innovations.

Your new team

As Senior Financial Controller, you will be joining our Finance team. You will be part of an international environment supporting financial control, reporting, compliance, and process improvement activities across Europe.

You ensure the correct accounting, allocation, and timing of promotional activities contributing to both optimal commercial performance and accurate financial reporting. In addition, you safeguard that supplier agreements are translated accurately into the financial administration and reporting processes.

During the monthly close, you play a coordinating role across multiple teams: ensuring a complete, accurate, and auditable view within both the P&L and balance sheet. You analyze variances, manage accruals, and ensure compliance with internal accounting policies and financial control standards.

You work as part of a dynamic team of financial controllers collectively responsible for the financial performance of Albert Heijn. Within this team, you act as a key business partner and subject matter expert on vendor allowances / sales & royalty, delivering insights that directly support decision-making and drive financial results.

Key focus areas of your role

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of financial control and reporting policies.
  • Ensure alignment with corporate policies, procedures, and local requirements.
  • Coordinate audits with external auditors and tax departments.
  • Plan, prepare, monitor, and execute financial closing activities.
  • Consolidate reporting and analyses and ensure correct application of reporting standards.
  • Lead account sign-off activities and ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Identify, propose, and implement process improvements and innovative solutions.
  • Participate in and coordinate projects to establish effective financial processes and ways of working.
  • Act as the financial point of contact for the Business Controllers of the units for which you are responsible during the close process. You resolve financial and accounting issues together with colleagues, Business Controllers, and the outsourced service provider (Genpact in India).
  • Liaise with the Dutch external auditors during the annual financial statement process.

What’s in it for you?

At Ahold Delhaize, we create a caring culture where you feel safe and supported. Being part of our family of brands comes with cross-cultural teamwork, international experience, and room to explore across brands and functions. Your curiosity drives what’s next!

We value your well-being, both at work and beyond. That’s why we offer benefits like flexible work options, well-being initiatives, sabbatical leave, and family care. We enjoy connecting in our office and encourage you to spend at least three days a week here.

Plus:

  • Attractive bonuses
  • A first-rate pension plan
  • 20 vacation days and the option to buy an additional 12,5 days from your personal flex budget
  • Travel expenses or an NS travel card
  • A laptop and smartphone

The ingredients you bring

Everyone brings their unique flavor. We believe this role comes to life when you bring the following experience:

  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in Financial Control, Accounting, Reporting, or Finance
  • Experience within an international and matrix organization
  • Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics, or a related field
  • Strong analytical skills, financial reporting expertise, and experience driving process improvements

Aside from this, a growth mindset, curiosity, ownership, collaboration, and the ability to coordinate activities across stakeholders and teams will take you far.
