This internship offers the opportunity to combine consulting, engineering, and IT in a fast-moving environment, support leading industrial companies on real transformation projects, and work on a research assignment covering strategy, process improvement, and technology implementation.
Internship details
Period: ~6 months (minimum of 4 months)
Start date: the first day of each month
The team
Supply Chain & Engineering (SC&E) is active in the fields of Engineering and Manufacturing.
You will either join PES - Product Engineering and Servicing, which focuses on next-generation R&D and the end-to-end product journey from initial design to managing Product Lifecycle Systems, sustainable footprint, and eventual retiring and replacement.
Or you will join M&O - Manufacturing and Operations, which focuses on digital Manufacturing, Intelligent Asset Management, and Capital Projects in Utilities. The topic of your graduation internship could be around grid infrastructure, challenges of the energy transition in the utilities industry, and other innovations on the factory floor to provide digital transformation at the core of Manufacturing.
Daily tasks
As an intern at SC&E, you will work with colleagues to conduct thesis research and assignments in relevant research areas. Your thesis will explore challenges or opportunities seen at clients so that new business solutions or opportunities can be defined based on expert input. During the internship, you’ll connect with many SC&E colleagues and gain insight into strategy and consulting. You will be required to be present at least 3 days a week at the main office in Amsterdam.
Research areas
Product Engineering and Servicing (PES)
Within PES, the focus is on companies involved in product development, mainly in Research & Development departments, helping clients optimize business processes and efficiency.
Defining R&D strategies: Helping clients shape their long-term vision and roadmap for R&D and digital transformation.
Improving engineering and business processes: Analyzing current ways of working and redesigning product development processes through workshops, interviews, and practical improvements.
Implementing digital solutions: Supporting the rollout of technologies such as Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) platforms and AI-enabled solutions.
Driving sustainability initiatives: Setting up frameworks, processes, and insights that help companies reach their sustainability goals.
Each year there are multiple business-relevant thesis topics prepared around these themes.
Manufacturing and Operations (M&O)
Within M&O, research focuses on Intelligent Asset Management, Capital Projects in Utilities, and Digital Manufacturing. The work involves transforming production plants, assets, and work processes to deliver operational excellence through integrated solutions, AI, IoT, mobility, and platforms.
Intelligent Asset Management: Supporting the transformation of how clients manage physical assets such as machines, buildings, and equipment through data-driven and intelligent solutions such as Predictive Maintenance and Asset Performance Management.
Capital Projects in Utilities: Supporting utility companies in driving the energy transition by developing new solutions and strategies to build new infrastructure, manage grid congestion, and optimize asset performance.
Digital Manufacturing: Focusing on where clients can digitize, optimize, and bring digital transformation to the core of manufacturing processes, including fully autonomous factories.
Possible thesis topics range from AI applications in the utility sector, data-driven predictive maintenance, rethinking the construction process and standardization for large-scale infrastructure projects, topics related to grid operation and efficiency, creating new propositions for autonomous factories, and digital transformation of manufacturing processes.
If you have a strong idea related to these topics, you are encouraged to propose a related subject that aligns with these goals.
