Associate (Director) Relationship Manager, Project Finance Europe

You are the Relationship Manager of your own portfolio of European project finance clients, mainly active in the renewable energy sector and increasingly in digital infrastructure.

You & your role

As Associate (Director) Relationship Manager, Project Finance Europe, you will work in the Relationship & Portfolio Management (RPM) team based in Utrecht. The RPM team manages client relationships after financial close and works closely with the Origination, Structuring & Execution (OSE) team, which brings new transactions into the portfolio.

You will be responsible for managing your own portfolio of clients, including all client-related tasks, monitoring client performance and maintaining close relationships. You are comfortable analysing financial models and legal documentation, draw clear conclusions and know how to present them clearly, both verbally and in writing, internally and externally.

Rabobank is currently hiring for two roles: Associate and Associate Director. These roles share many responsibilities and offer similar exposure to complex project finance portfolios and client relationships. The key differences lie in the level of responsibility and the emphasis within the role.

• Associates focus strongly on financial background, analytical thinking and the ability and motivation to work in models, combined with client-facing relationship management.
• Associate Directors place greater emphasis on relationship management and carry more responsibility and a more independent position within the team.

• Support the growth ambitions of the European Project Finance franchise.
• Maintain a healthy portfolio of clients by anticipating market developments and their impact on clients.
• Contribute to financing the Energy Transition and growing the share of sustainable assets on Rabobank’s loan book.

Top 3 responsibilities

• Independently manage all requests related to your clients, such as annual reviews, refinancings and amendment requests, and stay in close contact with your clients to build strong relationships and identify commercial opportunities.
• Perform credit analysis of your clients using external financial models and reporting, as well as internal risk assessment systems. Translate findings into clear conclusions and recommendations in credit papers. Stay on top of the financial and project documentation of your clients, and understand, interpret and monitor requirements stemming from the agreements.
• Contribute proactively to internal working groups to monitor market developments, continuously improve the organization and development of the department, and actively contribute to in-depth portfolio analysis.

You & your talent

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Economics or another finance-oriented study.
• 3+ years (Associate) or 5+ years (Associate Director) of relevant work experience in a finance-focused or project finance-related role.
• Energy transition or digital infrastructure knowledge is a plus.
• Strong financial analysis skills and the motivation to work deeply with models.
• Ability to translate analysis into clear conclusions and practical next steps.
• Affinity with legal documentation and interpretation of contracts.
• Relationship management skills with professional clients.
• Strong time management and clear prioritisation across varied work.
• Positive mindset and persistence, also when routine or less visible tasks need attention.
• Team player mentality.
• Fluent English, spoken and written.
