For the Naval Industry team at Thales in Hengelo, we are looking for an Intern KPI Standardization & Data Governance.

About the team

The Naval Industry team is responsible and accountable for the on-time production and delivery of the Thales Naval products within cost and first-time right. To realize this the Naval Industry team is strongly and closely cooperating with the other departments (e.g. Engineering, Procurement, Product Segments) within Thales Naval. As Thales Naval we foster a strong growth in demand to our products and to secure this growth the Industry organization needs to increase their focus on Digital Technology.

About the assignment

Our Industry Digital Technology department is strengthening the Industry performance management framework by improving the consistency and reliability of KPI definitions and data sources. A preliminary inventory of key KPIs has been created, but a deeper, structured understanding of the KPI landscape is still missing.

To support this effort, we are offering a 6-month internship focused on mapping, analyzing, and standardizing KPIs across the Industry domain. This internship combines practical business impact with an optional strong academic research component suitable for a thesis project.

The main tasks and responsibilities are:

  • Conduct structured interviews with Industry MT members, APRU managers, and KPI owners
  • Document KPI definitions, formulas, data lineage, and consumption patterns
  • Identify inconsistencies, overlaps, and gaps in the current KPI landscape
  • Develop a central KPI library / data glossary
  • Analyze data quality dependencies and propose prioritization criteria
  • Deliver a final proposal for KPI standardization at the strategic and tactical level
  • Provide recommendations for future governance and data quality improvements

Optional academic / scientific component

This internship includes a research track that can be developed into a Bachelor or Master thesis. The student will conduct a structured literature review and apply academic methods to evaluate and improve KPI governance.

Possible research themes

  • Organizational Alignment: Examine how KPI interpretation varies across departments
  • Information Architecture: Investigate how architecture influences KPI consistency and decision-making
  • Data Quality Dimensions: Develop a methodology to prioritize data quality improvements
  • KPI Framework Design: Compare theoretical KPI frameworks with current practice
