Flood risk analysis plays a crucial role in understanding and managing the impacts of flooding in a changing climate. With the rapid development of modelling tools and data-driven approaches, it is increasingly important to assess how different methodologies perform in practice.
At Haskoning, we continuously develop and apply innovative tools to support our clients in making informed decisions on flood risk management. In this internship, you will contribute to advancing our expertise by comparing state-of-the-art flood risk analysis methodologies, including modelling frameworks such as SFINCS combined with FloodAdapt, and our in-house Global Flood Risk Tool.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge tools, work on practical case studies, and support the further development and optimisation of flood risk modelling workflows within an international engineering consultancy environment.
We are looking for a motivated graduate student who is interested in advancing flood risk modelling and gaining hands-on experience with state-of-the-art tools. During this internship, you will work closely with our specialists to evaluate different flood risk methodologies and contribute to the further development of our in-house tools. You will combine technical analysis with practical application, helping to improve workflows and provide insights for future development.
The student will work on or support the following activities:
You will become part of our Water International advisory group in the Netherlands, working alongside a team of specialists in flood risk, climate resilience and hydraulic modelling. The team is spread across multiple offices, including Delft and Amersfoort, and collaborates closely on both national and international projects.
During your internship, you will be based in the Netherlands, working from either our Delft or Amersfoort office, or a combination of both. You will collaborate closely with colleagues and are expected to work from the office at least three days per week to support teamwork, knowledge sharing and hands-on guidance.
Throughout your internship, you will be supervised by experienced consultants who will support you in developing both your technical and professional skills, while giving you the opportunity to contribute to real-world projects and tool development.
We are looking for an enthusiastic MSc student with a strong technical background and a keen interest in flood risk modelling and data-driven analysis. You enjoy working with models and tools, are eager to learn, and like to translate technical results into meaningful insights.
