At Catawiki, every day brings the extraordinary. We’re a one-of-a-kind marketplace for buying and selling special objects, where more than 100,000 unique items are auctioned each week, all carefully curated by passionate in-house experts.

As a growing, diverse and sustainable scale-up, Catawiki is driven by three core values:

  • Taking ownership and driving impact
  • Being open to change and feedback
  • Being passionate about the mission and customers

Your Mission

As an Asian Art & Antiques Expert, you will help grow and strengthen Catawiki’s Asian Art & Antiques category, with a primary focus on Japanese Art & Antiques. By combining specialist knowledge, commercial awareness and strong seller relationships, you will curate high-quality auctions that attract buyers and deliver a trusted auction experience.

You will contribute to category growth by identifying new supply opportunities, supporting sellers, developing auction concepts and leading initiatives that expand the reach and performance of the category across Europe.

What You’ll Do

  • Curate high-quality Japanese Art & Antiques auctions by evaluating, selecting and presenting objects with strong buyer appeal and commercial potential.
  • Assess authenticity, condition, quality and market relevance, providing accurate estimates and maintaining high curation standards.
  • Support sellers with expert guidance on submissions, auction strategy, reserves, estimates and auction performance.
  • Identify and develop new supply opportunities by building relationships with dealers, galleries, collectors, artisans and specialist sellers.
  • Contribute to broader Asian Art & Antiques initiatives, including cross-category themes, special sales and collection opportunities.
  • Lead projects that support category growth, using market insights and performance data to improve results and develop new approaches.
  • Collaborate with experts and cross-functional stakeholders to grow supply, promote auctions and deliver a positive experience for buyers and sellers.

What You’ll Bring

  • Strong expertise in Japanese Art & Antiques, including authenticity assessment, condition evaluation, valuation and market knowledge.
  • Professional experience within the Asian art, antiques, auction, gallery, collecting, curatorial or online marketplace sector.
  • Understanding of the European buyer and seller market for Japanese Art & Antiques.
  • An established network of dealers, collectors, galleries, artisans, sellers or other industry contacts.
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in auction performance, seller engagement and category growth.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills, with the ability to use data and market insights to identify opportunities and support decision-making.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced digital environment while contributing to shared team objectives, with fluent English.

  • Work closely with experts, Account Managers, Business Development, Marketing and Category Leadership to achieve shared category goals.
  • Take ownership of projects and initiatives that improve category performance, supply growth and auction quality.
