We're looking for an Offensive Security Expert for attack simulation in the Cyber Defence department. In this role, you will help test the organisation’s cyber resilience, collaborate with a team to assess the organisation’s security posture and develop improvement proposals, and engage relevant disciplines and stakeholders to implement practical solutions that continuously enhance the bank’s overall security posture.

Your job

As an Offensive Security Expert, you have extensive experience executing a range of offensive security activities, primarily focused on attack simulation, and when required also including threat actor emulation, purple teaming, red teaming, and in-depth research into attack techniques. You apply an offensive mindset to the bank’s attack surface and ensure that ABN AMRO systems, applications, and processes are tested, assessed, and secured. You actively contribute to evolving the bank’s approach to offensive security and to related areas within Cyber Defence, including threat-driven cybersecurity and cyber resilience.

In addition to being a recognised expert in your field, you demonstrate leadership and the ability to analyse shortcomings in the bank’s security processes, services, and systems. Together with your team, you develop improvement proposals and engage relevant disciplines and stakeholders to implement practical solutions that continuously enhance the bank’s overall security posture.

Within and outside your engagements, you identify gaps, report them, and provide advice on remediation. You stay informed on relevant developments in offensive security and proactively share knowledge with colleagues and the wider community. In addition, you propose improvements to ways of working and contribute to increasing the maturity of the Cyber Defence department in general and the offensive security capability in particular.

Working environment

You will be part of the Global Cyber Intelligence Centre (GCIC) within the Grid Cyber Defence, which in turn is part of ABN AMRO's Corporate Information Security Office (CISO) located in the Netherlands. You will work together with a team that consists of motivated and passionate cybersecurity experts and analysts with specialisations such as cyber threat intelligence, adversary simulation, threat intelligence-based security assessments, and detection engineering.

Within the GCIC team, we collaborate in an open and approachable manner, offering variety and development opportunities. ABN AMRO is transitioning to an agile way of working in which speed, productivity, agility, and innovation are key. For an Offensive Security Expert, this involves close collaboration within the team and across multiple departments of the bank.

Your profile

You take ownership of your own delivery and have a proactive attitude. On top of that, you are pragmatic and analytical and have good communication and social skills, at least in fluent English. Furthermore, you are energetic and like to work in an Agile environment. You're known for your ability to translate technical risks into business risks and vice versa. And last but not least, you describe yourself as always curious, and willing to learn and experiment.

You recognize yourself in the following must-have hard skills:

  • Approximately five years or more of relevant experience in the offensive security domain.
  • Leadership experience and strong leadership skills.
  • Experience in executing adversarial techniques, tactics, and procedures (TTPs).
  • Experience in performing threat and/or risk assessments.
  • In-depth experience in complex Windows, macOS, and Linux environments.
  • In-depth experience with complex IT architectures.
  • You hold one or more relevant certifications, for example OSCP, OSEP, CRTO, or CRTP.
