AbbVie is seeking a Payroll Specialist responsible for processing and correcting payroll transactions for assigned countries, with a focus on Belgian payroll. Remote work across Europe is possible in any location with an AbbVie presence.
The role purpose:
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing and correcting payroll transactions for specific countries as assigned, generally larger and more complex countries. The activities include supporting pre-payroll activities, time and absence processes, reviewing and verifying files generated internally for the monthly payroll run, enforcing key payroll deadlines, answering employee, manager, and HR queries, and supporting year-end payroll activities. This position requires payroll experience and expertise to handle complex issues and escalations and to act as an SME for both internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with internal stakeholders and the Payroll Vendor to process payroll and resolve payroll transactions that are in error.
- Review and validate payroll files, such as the Payroll Reconciliation File and Bank File, and reports generated internally or by the GPV, and approve them for processing.
- Lead pre-payroll activities, including finalizing data entry, reviewing master data file quality, and confirming time and payroll data completeness.
- Support time and absence processes.
- Handle input errors and other errors from third-party vendors or internal AbbVie stakeholders and drive them to resolution. Plan and lead improvements based on identified root causes.
- Resolve bank errors with AbbVie Treasury’s support, coordinate communication with stakeholders, and implement preventive actions.
- Manage year-end payroll processing activities, including developing and providing the payroll calendar, reviewing year-end tax reports, and notifying AbbVie employees of the availability of tax information.
- Respond to internal AbbVie stakeholders in Tax, Treasury, Finance, and BHR regarding questions or issues raised around payroll data and payroll reports.
- Lead smaller global, regional, and country-specific projects and participate in global project teams.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Finance or Accounting.
- Minimum 5 years of payroll operational experience in Belgian payroll.
- Working knowledge of Belgian payroll, time and absence, and profit-sharing general rules, with the ability to apply them in practice for regular situations.
- Working knowledge of Workday and experience integrating with third-party applications.
- Strong customer orientation and a work ethic based on a strong desire to exceed expectations.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment, as well as to achieve results through collaboration and coordination with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Good analytical and process diagnostic skills, with the ability to get into the details while also seeing and understanding the big picture. Strong spreadsheet and database skills. Continuous improvement orientation.
- Strong written and oral communication skills in French.
- Preferably some hands-on experience with projects relating to payroll implementations.
