As an Associate Scientist, you are involved in both upstream (USP) and downstream (DSP) studies to support the development and optimization of bioprocesses to produce therapeutic proteins and other biologics.

You are responsible for performing practical laboratory work and are expected to contribute to data processing and reporting. You will act as a practical lead in the lab for studies and, together with the project team, help complete studies within agreed timelines. You are also involved in improvements within the department, and expected to volunteer ideas and follow up on these ideas.

In summary, you will be:

  • Performing and supporting USP and/or DSP experiments, including cell culture, fermentation, protein purification, and filtration techniques.
  • Interpreting experimental data in the lab, and escalating any issues in a timely manner.
  • Contributing to documentation and reporting of studies.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams within the department.
  • Contributing to process development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment and complying with safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or a BSc with 3 years of experience in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
  • Practical experience with USP (e.g., cell culture, bioreactors) and/or DSP (e.g., ÄKTA, UFDF).
  • Familiarity with GMP or GLP environments.
  • You are proactive, accurate, and solution oriented.
  • You have strong communication skills.
  • You can work under time pressure and manage your work independently.
  • Good command of the English language, both spoken and written. Dutch language skills are a plus.
