Internship: AI Data Assistant

This internship offers the opportunity to contribute to a next-generation AI assistant that enables colleagues to access data insights through a single, intuitive entry point.

At Vanderlande, we are building the future of data-driven decision-making. You will help design and develop a smart, conversational, user-friendly way to interact with data instead of navigating multiple dashboards and tools. The assignment combines AI, data, and software engineering.

You will work on creating agent-based solutions that connect to the central data platform and transform complex data into clear, actionable insights. This includes shaping the user experience, defining technical architecture, and building a functional prototype.

By the end of the assignment, you will have contributed to a real, high-impact innovation that can transform how decisions are made across Vanderlande.

Department description

The Data & Decision Intelligence (DDI) team is a cross-functional, international team within Vanderlande that helps unlock the value of data. The team delivers advanced analytics, data products, and AI-driven insights to a wide range of internal stakeholders, including Sales, Product Management, Sustainability, Cyber Security and more.

Working closely with the central data platform, the team combines expertise in data engineering, analytics, and data science to turn data from multiple systems into secure, well-contextualized, and actionable insights that support decision-making across value streams.

Tasks/responsibilities

• Own and manage an end-to-end innovation project
• Translate business needs into technical solutions
• Design and develop both front-end and back-end components
• Experiment with AI engineering concepts such as prompt design, agents, or integrations
• Work closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Your profile

• Experience with Python and JavaScript, or willingness to learn quickly
• Interest in full-stack development and modern software architectures
• Curiosity about AI, GenAI, and data platforms
• Proactive, creative, flexible and able to take ownership
• Strong communication skills and ability to bridge business and technology
• Comfortable working in a dynamic and complex environment
• Mandatory enrolment to a Dutch Education System and resident of The Netherlands
