Liberty Global is looking for a Competition Policy Trainee in Amsterdam for 6 months starting July 2026.

The Competition Policy Trainee is an exciting role in the Legal and Corporate Affairs team of Liberty Global. You will support the Competition Policy team in providing legal advice relating to competition law and regulation. You will collaborate with colleagues in Legal and Corporate Affairs, Strategy, Content, and other key departments within Liberty Global, as well as work with the legal and regulatory teams of Liberty Global’s operating companies and investments in Belgium, the Netherlands, UK and Ireland.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support regulatory filings, including merger control reviews, foreign direct investment/national security reviews, and EU foreign subsidies regulation reviews.
  • Provide competition law support during due diligence, review relevant deal documentation, and provide pre-closing guidance and antitrust support in integration workstreams.
  • Provide legal and regulatory guidance in reviewing commercial contracts and support the team in advising on behavioural competition law matters, such as horizontal and vertical agreements.
  • Support the development and implementation of antitrust compliance programs and antitrust elements of policies.
  • Support on regulatory issues relating to the industries Liberty Global is active in, including telecommunications, energy, infrastructure, and content.
  • Disseminate regulatory and competition law best practice and expertise within Liberty Global.

Skills & Abilities Required

  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Excellent understanding of competition law matters.
  • Excellent research skills applied to legal and regulatory analysis.
  • Master’s degree in Competition Law, Regulation or relevant legal field.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Strong prioritization, project management and time management skills.
  • Proactive self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Confident learner with a willingness to acquire new skills and adapt to changing situations.
  • Great interpersonal skills.

Desirable Skills & Abilities

  • Relevant experience as a paralegal or legal assistant in a law firm, regulator or in-house legal team.
  • Understanding of regulatory frameworks and competitive landscape within the telecommunications and media industry in Europe.
  • Appreciation of the technology behind Liberty Global’s products and services and the policy issues the company faces.
  • Business understanding of the telecoms and media industries.
  • Eager to learn new technologies and ideas.
  • Comfortable working across cross-cultural boundaries and all levels of an organisation.
  • Ability to reduce the complexity of legal advice and to deliver it to the business in clear and concise language.
  • Ability to deliver crisp presentations.
