As a Hardware Engineer in the SmartTag team, you will work on the development, refinement and maintenance of intelligent, low-power wireless sensors used to collect behavioural data from cows. These SmartTags are an essential part of automation solutions for the livestock industry, where quality and reliability are paramount.

You will work on both new developments and the optimisation and maintenance of existing products. Part of your work will also consist of a wide variety of tasks supporting production and the Test & Measurement group. You will assist with production issues, analyse test yield, draw up test plans for test and measurement equipment, manage the entire Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) administration, and help identify and test alternative components to ensure product continuity.

You will become part of the R&D department, where an agile mindset and pragmatic approach are valued in order to respond effectively to relevant internal and external developments.

What are you going to do?

Your responsibilities

Requirements and specifications

You translate business requirements into technical requirements, specifications and test criteria.

Hardware development

You work on the development, optimisation and maintenance of hardware solutions for SmartTags in accordance with a product development process.

Component selection and validation

You make informed component choices, investigate alternatives and carry out validation tests in collaboration with suppliers.

Production

You analyse test results and provide support for technical issues in production.

Quality assurance

You monitor the quality of both development processes and products, including through reviews and validation tests.

PLM system

You ensure that product information and technical documentation are correctly recorded within the PLM system.

Compliance

You provide support for compliance and qualification tests to ensure compliance with relevant guidelines and quality requirements.

Your team

As a Hardware Engineer, you will be part of the SmartTag team within Livestock. This is a multidisciplinary team comprising various disciplines, working together to develop, test, manufacture and maintain the SmartTag from start to finish. Outside the SmartTag team, you will be part of the Hardware Engineers discipline group. As well as working closely together on technical matters, the team values a friendly, informal atmosphere, and a chat over a cup of coffee is always on the cards.

What's in it for you?

In addition to salary, you are entitled to a thirteenth month, a good pension scheme, and profit sharing with the opportunity to become a shareholder of Nedap.

At Nedap, everything revolves around trust and autonomy. Along with your colleagues, you decide on your own working hours and vacation days to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Personal and professional growth are also highly valued. You will receive a comprehensive introduction, and you are encouraged to continuously develop yourself.

Required skills

As a Hardware Engineer, you have a keen eye for detail and take a structured approach to the development, refinement and maintenance of existing products. You proactively take ownership of your work and ensure that quality and reliability are guaranteed. At the same time, you are a team player: you coordinate, share knowledge and involve colleagues in your decision-making. You communicate easily with colleagues both within and outside the team and liaise independently with suppliers in collaboration with the supply chain team when necessary.

Furthermore, you recognise yourself in the following:

  • You have at least 3 years’ experience as a Hardware Engineer and a completed higher professional education (HBO) or university (WO) degree in Electrical Engineering. You possess strong analytical skills with the ability to see the bigger picture.
  • You have experience in designing and further developing electronic circuits, reading and drawing up schematics, laying out PCBs and testing products.
  • You are fluent in Dutch and English.
  • An affinity with and knowledge of RF technology and analogue circuits is an advantage. Knowledge of ultra-low power, EMC and ESD is also an advantage.
  • Experience with Altium for schematics and PCB layout is an advantage.
  • An affinity for embedded software is an advantage.

Good to know: Hybrid working is common practice at Nedap, and you and your team can agree on your working hours to ensure a good work-life balance.
