We are looking for a leader who values personality over polish and human connection over rigid protocols. As the manager of Grandmother Café and Breakfast in Amsterdam City, you will protect two distinct, soul-filled spaces by fostering "grandmother" energy, a rebellious mix of warmth and genuine care. This isn't about managing a shift; it’s about orchestrating an experience where guests feel seen and members feel they truly belong. You will lead a team of originals, casting for character and stories while providing the structure they need to perform with total confidence. By balancing your gut instinct with smart data, you keep service consistent and safe without ever letting it feel robotic. If you believe the best hospitality comes from being your unapologetic self, we should talk.

Grandmother Café

Grandmother Café is our answer to what hospitality should feel like. Inspired by the warmth of walking into a grandmother's home, where the door is always open, there's always something baking and nobody leaves without feeling cared for, it's a café built on connection rather than convenience. Forget speed targets and polished service scripts. Grandmother runs on genuine conversation, familiar faces and the kind of atmosphere where guests of all ages feel comfortable enough to slow down and stay a while. The people who work here aren't just staff, they're characters, with stories and presence. That's the whole point.

Breakfast (and M&E, in Sunny)

This is where the day begins, and how it begins matters. This space serves The Social Hub breakfast each morning, transitions into a hub for M&E meals and breaks throughout the day and occasionally comes alive in the evening with pop-ups and special events. It's a space that shifts and adapts, but the throughline is always the same: food and atmosphere that feel considered, not catered. Whether a guest is fuelling up before a busy day or winding down at an evening pop-up, the experience should carry that same sense of care and intention that defines everything we do. The space runs from early morning through to the evening, and occasionally into the late night when events are on.

About The Social Hub

The Social Hub is a creative, soulful environment where people come to work, stay, learn, and play, but mostly, to just be themselves. While we have the bones of a hotel, we operate more like a neighbourhood in a single building. We’ve traded the traditional hospitality script for a mix of vibrant social spaces, quiet corners for deep work, and high-energy spots for late-night cocktails.

Whether it’s a student finding their feet, a local joining a talk, or a traveller staying for a month, everyone here is part of the same heartbeat. Based in iconic cities across Europe and moving toward a global future, we are building a place where community isn't just a buzzword, it's the reason we open the doors every morning.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead with presence on the floor, setting the tone across both Grandmother Café and Breakfast (and M&E, in Sunny).
  • Cast your team through creative "auditions" like bake-offs and social sessions to find the realest personalities.
  • Coach your crew to show up as their authentic selves rather than performing a script.
  • Balance the cozy, intimate, rebellious energy of Grandmother Café with the flexible, community-driven atmosphere of Breakfast (and M&E, in Sunny).
  • Trust your intuition to adjust the lighting, music and flow of the room in real time.
  • Keep the operational foundations solid so the team has the freedom to focus on the guests.
  • Create structure and clarity so your team can perform with confidence.
  • Keep service consistent without making it feel rigid.
  • Use data and insights to improve how things work.
  • Ensure compliance, safety and quality standards are always met.

What You’ll Have

  • You bring significant experience leading teams in hospitality or community-focused spaces.
  • You have a natural ability to read people and energy, responding with empathy and clarity.
  • You bring the courage to make bold hiring choices, favouring "spark" over "safe" profiles.
  • You have a coaching mindset and love helping people grow in confidence and skill.
  • You bring a solid understanding of the business side without letting it overshadow the guest experience.
  • You have fluency in both English and Dutch.
  • You bring a sense of calm confidence, even when the space gets busy and chaotic.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to work at a dynamic, multi-national company.
  • The opportunity to work for a Certified B Corp® company that balances profit with positive impact, collaborating with organizations like Movement on the Ground and the TSH Talent Foundation to create meaningful change.
  • The chance to learn and grow in your role with the potential for future growth.
  • Awesome discounts in all our properties in Europe for you, your friends and family.
  • A wonderful workplace to call home, full of events, fun colleagues and benefits.

The Social Hub is much more than a hotel. In our boundary-blurring spaces we bring together a new generation of bold change-makers to connect, learn, stay, work, and play. Creating memorable experiences for our community of hotel guests, students, creatives, enterprising minds and anyone in between.
