Credit Risk Insight and Appetite Specialist

The Global Credit Risk department sets the credit risk strategy, ensuring that ING’s lending practices are in line with its risk tolerance and regulatory requirements and managing credit restructuring from a global and central point. Global Credit Risk plays a critical role via its credit risk policies, credit risk appetite setting and credit risk portfolio management in protecting the bank from losses due to defaults or economic downturns.

The team

You will be part of the Credit Risk Insight and Appetite team, a global function within Credit Risk Management. The team is responsible for defining ING’s Credit Risk Appetite, delivering consolidated dashboards, and developing advanced analytics capabilities. It works closely with stakeholders across Risk, Finance, COO, and the front office, and engages with external auditors and regulators. As a junior team member, you will work under the guidance of more senior colleagues, contributing to a collaborative and high-performing environment.

As a Junior Credit Risk Reporting & Analytics Specialist, you will support the second line of defence by contributing to the development and delivery of credit risk dashboards, forecasts, and analytics. Your work will help ensure transparency, regulatory compliance, and strategic alignment across ING’s credit risk landscape.

This role is ideal for someone looking to grow into a credit risk analytics expert. You will also support the development of advanced analytics solutions that enhance reporting efficiency and enable smarter decision-making.

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities

As a Junior Credit Risk Insight and Appetite Specialist, you will:

• Contribute to the delivery of BCBS239-compliant dashboards (e.g., CRU, Concentration Risk), risk cost forecasts, and ad-hoc reports; support the development and alignment of Credit Risk Appetite and Concentration Risk levels with regulatory expectations.
• Assist in building analytics tools using e.g. SAS, SQL, Python, and Power BI. Support data processing and visualization efforts that enhance efficiency and meet the analytic needs of Global Credit Risk.
• Support the creation of Data Marts by contributing to the design and implementation of data models that meet analytical and reporting needs.
• Assist in developing automated solutions that improve the monitoring of ING’s credit risk portfolio. Use your keen eye for data-driven opportunities to help transition toward more automated and insightful reporting.
• Design and implement reporting dashboards based on credit risk data, ensuring usability and relevance for internal stakeholders.
• Collaborate with data architects to optimize data structures and ensure scalability and performance of reporting solutions.
• Contribute to ETL workflow development, supporting the extraction, transformation, and loading of data across systems.
• Prepare functional and non-functional documentation to support transparency, maintainability, and knowledge transfer within the team.
• Help maintain data integrity across credit risk systems by participating in data quality checks and contributing to initiatives that improve consistency and completeness in line with BCBS239 and internal governance standards.
• Participate in regulatory and audit engagements, including ECB inspections, CAS audits, and external auditor reviews. Assist in preparing responses to requests and help track and document remediation efforts.

To thrive in this role, you bring:

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or a related field. Alternatively, you have 3–6 years of relevant experience in data reporting and analytics within a financial or risk management context.
• The ability to build strong professional relationships and communicate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders—from data analysts and auditors to credit risk experts and specialists in COO Risk.
• Proven experience in data management, including data modelling and the development of robust reporting solutions that support strategic decision-making.
• Hands-on proficiency in SAS 4GL or Python, with the ability to apply these tools to solve complex analytical challenges.
• Practical experience with at least one reporting and visualization tool, such as Power BI, SAS Visual Analytics, or IBM Cognos, and a willingness to explore new technologies that enhance reporting efficiency.
• Strong analytical thinking and data storytelling skills and can translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
• A proactive and solution-oriented mindset, with the confidence to respond to ad-hoc requests from senior management and regulators in a timely and professional manner with the help of experienced staff.
• The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to collaborative team efforts.
• A structured approach to problem-solving, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to data quality and governance standards.
