Hi, we’re Bloom & Wild.

🛠️ Technology Team @ Bloom & Wild Group

Bloom & Wild’s Technology team of over 60 people sits at the heart of the business, building and maintaining solutions that power e-commerce, production and fulfilment across its brands, enabling customers to be delighted every day.

The Product Engineering team consists of five cross-functional squads who each own their own business and architectural domain, and are supported by Platform, Domain Engineering, Data and IT teams.

Our platform uses technologies including Ruby and Rails and Python/React, backed by PostgreSQL, Fargate/ECS on AWS, and Cloud Run on GCP. It exposes APIs that are used by our multi-brand Angular webapp and our native iOS and Android mobile apps. We’re also looking at developing new domain-driven services and microservices where applicable.

Most of the team is based in the UK or The Netherlands and works in a flexible model, with choice in how often they travel to the office. Squads meet in person at least once per quarter to maintain connections, collaborate on larger projects and have fun together.

What you'll be doing

As a Platform Engineer you'll work across the whole of Technology — Frontend, Backend, Data Engineering, Data Science and Warehouse Tech — helping other engineers ship better, faster, and more safely. You'll split your time roughly equally between embedded engagements inside domain squads and central platform work on the shared infrastructure. AI-assisted ways of working run through both.

The role of an engineer is changing. AI has removed writing code as the scarce skill; the valuable engineer is the one who picks the right problems, scopes them, and owns them through to how they behave in production. This role leans into that shift. You will carry a high degree of autonomy — the work is not always handed to you as tickets; you identify it, shape it, and own it end-to-end.

Please note that this is a remote role.

This includes:

  • Partnering with domain squads through embedded engagements, shipping code and tools to directly enhance their capability and solve real problems.
  • Building shared, adoption-driven infrastructure like feature flags, canary rollouts, fast builds, and CI/CD patterns, making the easiest path the best path.
  • Extending AI across the engineering lifecycle, including ticket generation, config authoring, incident response, and code review, while creating reusable patterns and operating with AI as a core working mode.
  • Maintaining and evolving shared services including AWS, GitHub, Datadog, and Cloudflare, with ownership distributed across the Platform team.
  • Aggressively automating manual processes and removing friction from the developer day-to-day.
  • Coaching squads on SLOs, observability, and AI tooling so they can own their production behaviour without relying on Platform.
  • Proactively identifying, scoping, and delivering high-leverage problems from month six onwards.

You’ll love this role if you…

  • Have day-to-day experience with AWS and Terraform, and the judgement to make real calls on infrastructure shape, cost, and reliability. The stack includes ECS Fargate, RDS, ElastiCache, DynamoDB, Lambda, and EventBridge, and you'll be working on this from early on.
  • Have good judgement across CI/CD and observability, and are comfortable with safe and reliable deployment practices using tools such as GitHub Actions and Terraform Cloud, as well as using metrics, logs, and traces to understand system behaviour.
  • Use AI coding tools as part of your daily workflow today, or are visibly excited to work this way. You don’t need to be an expert in any specific tool, but you do need to want to work this way.
  • Are willing to pick up app-side stacks like Ruby and Python, and are comfortable operating inside long-lived monoliths without trying to rewrite them.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of problems — spotting something, scoping it, and driving it through to done — and are comfortable operating in ambiguity and defining the problem before the solution.
  • Have a curious mindset, love to learn, and often take initiative to improve things.
  • Are proactive, take responsibility and initiative to get things done, and are willing to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in.
  • Love to collaborate and are at your best when working cross-functionally with other teams.
  • Enjoy problem-solving and take a logical and collaborative approach to finding solutions.
  • Have a growth mindset, are open to feedback and coaching, and seek out opportunities for learning and development.

It would be great if you also have...

  • Been part of rolling out production-ownership practices across a team or organisation.
  • Experience working on an e-commerce site or in a fast-growing, preferably consumer-facing, environment.
  • Experience setting patterns that other engineers adopted without being told to.
  • Experience writing services or apps that fit into distributed architectures, including working with APIs, event-driven patterns, and the contracts and practices that keep distributed systems stable.

These are some of the skills and experience thought to enable success in this role, but please don’t worry if you are missing some of these.
