About the Team
The Academic Leaders & Funders (ALF) organization offers analytics and Software-as-a-Service solutions – SciVal, Pure, Interfolio, and Digital Commons - to support the academic lifecycle and research management needs of universities, research organizations, and funding agencies. The ALF Technical Services (TS) Team is a global team of technical product managers, data and software engineers that supports the implementation of ALF solutions (primarily Pure and Interfolio) by leading data integration projects with customer enterprise platforms (e.g., HR, Finance), and external data sources and tools, as well as providing automated data curation, enrichment and linking services.
About the Role
The Technical Product Manager (TPM) is a customer-facing role responsible for managing the integration activities required for a successful implementation of the ALF solutions. This involves gathering business requirements, analyzing the existing ecosystem and designing robust and scalable integration solutions that leverage the ALF Technical Services integration platform and best practices. The TPM is involved in the customer lifecycle at the beginning, collaborating with the sales engineers during the pre-sales phase and working closely with TS data and software engineers as well as the Client Services team, who is responsible for the overall implementation project, to ensure a successful and timely launch.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with customers to analyze business processes, gather functional and non-functional requirements, and translate them into technical specifications for data integration projects.
- Define project scope, goals, deliverables, success metrics and planning for projects.
- Create and maintain clear, comprehensive documentation including integration requirements, data mappings, API specifications, and test plans.
- Ensure solutions comply with relevant security, privacy, and compliance standards.
- Write detailed, comprehensive epics and user stories for the developers.
- Lead the delivery of the integration projects, communicate with the customer, manage risk and mitigation activities.
- Serve as the primary technical point of contact for customer queries and escalations.
- Collaborate with the other TPMs and the engineering team leads to manage all the activities of the Technical Services team by adopting Agile methodologies and best practices.
- Promote integration best practices and continuous improvement among internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- 4+ years in technical product management (or equivalent role delivering technical products), with focus on data and workflow integrations.
- Strong customer-facing experience and the ability to translate between business requirements and technical design.
- Practical experience with APIs (REST, GraphQL), integration patterns, data formats (JSON, XML, flat) and databases.
- Proven delivery skills: prioritization, risk mitigation, change management, and stakeholder communication.
- Comfortable reading API docs, crafting sample requests, writing basic SQL, and collaborating closely with engineers and data teams.
- Proven experience with Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and the team.
- Experience working with or alongside AI / LLM-enabled capabilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience integrating HRIS / HR and Finance systems such as Workday, SAP, Oracle Fusion, etc. is considered a plus.
- Experience in higher education or research systems is considered a plus.
- Familiarity with Research Information Management Systems or Faculty Information Systems is considered a plus.
