Join AWL as a Robotics Engineer

Are you an enthusiastic and driven engineer with experience in robotics and/or industrial automation? Then we are looking for you.

As a Robotics Engineer, you work on high-quality automated machines for the automotive industry as well as new, fast-growing markets such as the food industry. Within this Business Unit, we are building the future of AWL by developing technologies and solutions that further strengthen our position in these sectors.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary project team and work on innovative and complex production systems where quality, reliability and performance are key.

What do we expect?

  • A higher professional education (HBO) degree in a technical discipline such as Electrical Engineering, Systems and Control, Industrial Engineering, or demonstrable equivalent knowledge and thinking level;
  • More than 4 years of relevant work experience in a similar role and/or within the field of mechatronics and robotics, preferably in industrial automation;
  • Preferably experience with robot brands such as ABB and Fanuc (Karel);
  • Knowledge of control engineering, such as PLC programming, vision systems and sensors;
  • A willingness to travel and work abroad for several weeks per quarter from time to time.

What will you do?

You translate the customer’s functional and technical requirements into robust robot control programs for robots and peripheral equipment, suitable for demanding production environments. You will work on projects in various phases, from engineering and realisation through to commissioning at the customer’s site.

In addition, you will be responsible for:

  • Testing, simulating and optimising robotic systems on the shop floor, with a strong focus on quality and cycle time;
  • Identifying and proposing technical improvements within projects;
  • Acting as a technical point of contact for colleagues and customers;
  • Preparing and delivering handovers and training sessions for customers;
  • Commissioning machines and production lines worldwide together with the project team.

You will work on a wide variety of projects, ranging from compact robotic cells to complete, industry-specific production lines. This diversity, combined with the opportunity to work in new markets, makes every project unique.

This will be your day

  • 7:30 After a friendly chat with your colleagues and a cup of coffee, you start your day. You have the freedom to organise your own work and begin by planning your day. You set the priorities for the week yourself.
  • 11:00 You dive back into your project, which is in its final phase. Time to design the last part of the code and have it reviewed by your colleagues.
  • 13:00 Colleagues encounter challenges during development and ask for your expertise. Naturally, you step into an advisory role and look forward to solving the challenge together.
  • 15:00 In the evening, an important meeting is scheduled with a demanding customer and colleagues from our US office. Together, you prepare this steering committee meeting, where you share your knowledge and insights as a robotics specialist on product and project development.
  • 16:30 The day has flown by. You wrap things up and close your laptop. It was a long but rewarding working day. Tomorrow you start a bit later. Flexibility is very important to us.

Your tasks

  • 70% Robot programming, commissioning and testing
  • 10% Project management
  • 10% Support
  • 10% Other

What do we offer:

  • A challenging and innovative product development environment with a wide variety of projects and a high level of autonomy and responsibility;
  • Extensive opportunities for personal development through our AWL Academy, offering more than 50 training programmes, as well as participation in our vitality programme “Boost Your Life”;
  • An extensive benefits package in line with the CAO Metalektro, including a collective pension scheme, insurance and 40 days of annual leave.
