Technical Author – S1000D

Technical Author – Apeldoorn area (Hybrid) – ALTEN Nederland

As part of our continued growth, we are looking for Technical Writers to join our team and contribute to ongoing client projects in Apeldoorn.

As a Technical Author you will:

• Create and update user manuals and maintenance documentation in S1000D/XML format for complex mechanical and electronic devices.
• Collaborate closely with internal departments to gather accurate technical data and ensure documentation reflects current product configurations.
• Develop and edit technical illustrations using appropriate CAD or illustration tools.
• Review and publish technical documents in accordance with internal and customer-specific quality standards.
• Ensure compliance with the S1000D documentation standard and other relevant regulations.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of authoring processes and documentation quality.

Your Profile

• This role requires Dutch security clearance due to work in the defence sector. Please note that only candidates who meet government eligibility requirements for this screening can be considered.
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering or relevant field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in technical authoring, preferably in an industrial or defense-related context.
• Solid knowledge of the S1000D standard and its application in XML-based authoring environments.
• Strong technical background in electrical and/or mechanical engineering.
• Ability to interpret and explain complex systems and procedures clearly and accurately.
• Experience in the naval or military industry is a strong advantage.
• Authoring Tools: WebX (preferred), or other XML-based tools such as Arbortext, Oxygen XML Editor.
• Illustration Tools: CreoView, Isodraw, Adobe Illustrator, or similar 2D/3D CAD tools.
