The dsm-firmenich Center for Biotechnology Innovation in Delft is the primary location for bioproduct development. The Center covers the entire bioprocess development pipeline from idea to commercial scale production, delivering new products for nutrition, health, and beauty using a cutting-edge biotechnical toolbox including sustainable microbial fermentation, product separation, and purification.

At the dsm-firmenich Center for Biotechnology Innovation in Delft, we are looking for a Lab Technician Downstream Processing.

Your key responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and conduct lab-scale downstream processing experiments, including filtration, centrifugation, extraction, crystallization, distillation, drying, and formulation.
  • Analyze experimental data, prepare comprehensive reports, and apply data-driven approaches to solve equipment and process challenges.
  • Optimize process parameters, improve efficiency and product quality, and prepare technical or food-grade samples.
  • Work closely with scientists and subject matter experts to design experiments and solve technical challenges.
  • Maintain lab operations and equipment in compliance with safety standards.

You bring

  • A Bachelor (HBO) in (bio)chemical engineering or equivalent education.
  • Up to 5 years of hands-on experience in downstream bioprocess development, including handling fermentation broths, designing chemical downstream setups, and data processing and interpretation.
  • Familiarity with process development in combination with laboratory automation.
  • A strong sense of accountability with an innovator’s instinct and a focus on results.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • A collaborative spirit and enjoyment of working in international teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills.
