How will you make our customers happy?

At bol, we want to be there for our customers at the right time with the right message. But with 13 million customers and many different marketing channels, it’s a challenge to know which interaction actually led to a purchase. During this internship, you will dive into our BigQuery data to develop a new marketing attribution model from the ground up. By accurately linking orders to the right channels, you’ll help us understand the value of every click. By doing this, you ensure we invest in the channels our customers actually find helpful, making their experience more relevant and personal. You will be a full member of the Customer & Marketing Analytics team, where we’ll guide you to become a pro in SQL and data-driven decision-making.

What will you do?

You’ll join the Customer & Marketing Analytics team: a group of data enthusiasts who use data to make our marketing and customer programs more performant. Your main project is to build a better way to attribute orders to marketing channels.

  • You will dive into large datasets in BigQuery to map out customer journeys.
  • You’ll research and develop a new attribution model to better link orders to marketing efforts.
  • You will use SQL and Python to build and validate your model.
  • You will compare the performance of your new model against our current attribution logic to identify improvements.
  • You will present your findings to the team and stakeholders, helping us decide where to focus our marketing efforts.

What do you bring?

We are looking for an analytical student who enjoys solving complex puzzles and wants to work with one of the largest datasets in the Netherlands.

  • You are currently in the final phase of a master’s degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Data Science, Business Analytics, Econometrics, Marketing Analytics, Technology and Operations Management, or a similar study).
  • You are looking for a graduation project where you can combine academic research with business impact.
  • You have a solid foundation in SQL (experience with BigQuery is a huge plus).
  • You have experience with or a strong interest in Python for data analysis.
  • You communicate clearly in English
  • You’re available at least 3 days per week for a period of 4-6 months.
  • You are curious about the ‘why’ behind the data: what actually drives a customer to buy?
