Job Description

Join us as a Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Intern at our international headquarters in Utrecht, starting in September 2026. In this role, you will focus on packaging regulations, with an emphasis on both sustainability and food contact materials. Your primary objective will be to scout for the latest developments and trends in these areas, analyse emerging regulatory requirements, and formalise findings to help update company policies and guidelines. You will work closely with different stakeholders within R&D such as food safety, regulatory, packaging etc., team to assess current packaging practices, identify gaps, and contribute to the creation of globally aligned and up-to-date protocols for packaging safety and sustainability. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in regulatory affairs, sustainability, and food safety, while supporting our commitment to quality and innovation in packaging.

Your key activities will be:

  • Conduct a literature review on best practices for packaging guidelines to enhance sustainability and safety.
  • Support the development of standardised templates, decision trees, and risk assessment tools tailored to packaging design processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with company requirements and relevant certification standards for sustainable and safe packaging.
  • Support the creation of training materials and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to facilitate the global rollout and adoption of the standardised digital packaging guidelines programme.

For this role as a Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Intern, we’re looking for someone who has the following skills and experience:

  • Academic Program: You are enrolled in a BSc or MSc program for the entirety of the internship, preferably in Pack Technology or Sustainability/Food Safety/Toxicology or related subjects.
  • Skillset: You possess strong MS Office skills and fluent proficiency in speaking and written English – Having some similar hands-on experience with food research activities is always a benefit.
  • Personal traits: You have a structured approach, a driven and energetic personality, excellent communication and people skills, and the ability to work both in a team and independently.
  • Commitment: You are ready to dedicate at least 5 months to this internship, preferably from September 2026 until February 2027
  • Availability: You can join the internship for 5 days per week, including three days in-office and one or two days remotely, ensuring an ideal balance between collaboration and independence

  • Your educational institution is willing to sign a collaboration agreement with JDE Peet's and when joining our Research departments, also sign an NDA agreement for internships.
  • You are either an EU(EEA) student residing in the Netherlands during the internship or a Non-EU(EEA) student enrolled and living in the Netherlands during the internship.
