Drive value creation of our innovation engine and help bol stay in control of our tech costs.

How do you make our customers happy?

By ensuring our Product, Tech and Data (PT&D) strategies measurably improve platform performance for 13.7 million customers and 46,000 partners. Within PT&D multiple transformations (e.g., driver-based steering, the internal and external AI transformation) are ongoing. As PT&D Controller, you support these key transformations as a financial business partner being part of multiple cross-functional teams. With the help of your efforts these transformations will impact the vast majority of PT&D strategies significantly and guide investment and resourcing decisions. Your insights trigger discussions at PT&D leadership level, challenge and strengthen bol’s longer-term plans. Ready to turn financial expertise into strategic innovative impact?

The biggest challenge

The challenge is two-folded. One is ensuring that success and the progress towards success of the key transformations is measurable, through clear definitions, sufficient ownership and shared understanding on the KPIs. As you are part of the cross-functional teams that move the transformations forward within PTD, you are in the driver-seat to influence your cross-functional team mates and thereby ensure that your finance perspective is taken into account.

The second challenge is ensuring a robust and forward-looking cost framework in an environment that changes at high speed. As dominant market leader within e-commerce, you operate in a landscape where external market shifts and internal strategic choices can rapidly influence the cost base of PTD. Your challenge is to safeguard clarity and control: ensuring that our fixed-cost framework remains stable, transparent, and actionable, even when the world around us moves fast.

Your stakeholders expect engagement. How do you keep the cost structure predictable when the business environment is anything but? How do you stay pragmatic, challenge assumptions, and maintain control without slowing the pace of the PTD transformations? And how do you balance long-term cost discipline with urgent, business-critical decisions, while keeping your insights fit for an environment that never stands still?

What you'll do as a Business Controller

You collaborate closely with PT&D senior leadership and act as a strategic financial counterpart across Product, Tech, and Data. PT&D is the core of bol’s innovation engine, and navigating this landscape requires you to link innovation strategies, tech transformations, and long-term financial steering. You bring clarity, direction, and challenge — even when priorities evolve at speed. You shape the financial foundation of key PT&D transformations (e.g., AI, driver-based steering), ensure initiatives are properly assessed and funded, and hold stakeholders accountable for delivering measurable value. Your insights sharpen decision-making, guide investment choices, and help the organization translate ambitious innovation goals into more predictable financial outcomes.

You think several quarters ahead and continuously refine the underlying models that enable bol to anticipate what is coming our way. You translate both internal developments and external signals into reliable cost forecasts, ensuring that leadership can make confident decisions grounded in fact-based scenarios. At the same time, you remain responsive to high-pressure ad hoc requests that require sharp analysis without losing precision.

As a PT&D Controller, you are part of the Product, Tech, Data & Cost Control team, but your remit extends well beyond cost ownership. You integrate new plans, organizational shifts, and strategic bets into a forward-looking PT&D financial long-term plan. With your manager you act as trusted advisor for Business Planning and the broader Controlling community. Together, you safeguard a reliable, realistic, and strategically aligned picture of PT&D performance and resourcing needs, in terms of financing.

Your main day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Lead the period-end close, budgeting, and forecasting cycles for PT&D, ensuring both accuracy and strategic reflection of ongoing transformations.
  • Build, refine, and standardize PT&D financial models, including long-range investment, resource, and transformation models — leveraging automation and advanced analytics where possible.
  • Engage and contribute to relevant management teams because value creation in PT&D reaches beyond the P&L, representing PT&D Finance across multidisciplinary settings and challenging stakeholders with data-driven insights.
  • Shape and validate business cases for strategic initiatives, including AI use cases, innovation investments, and efficiency opportunities.
  • Support ongoing transformations in our tech and data landscape as part of cross-functional teams, working with teams to enhance transparency, measurability and accessibility of financial and performance data.

Why you can make a difference

You thrive in a situations where you can influence and can bring clarity and insight to the situation based on data, finance and business acumen. You have a Master’s degree in Business Administration, and 4-7 years of experience. You are comfortable around senior management, willing to invest in understanding other perspectives and learn new skills. You are open to taking risks and moving out of your comfort zone. We expect your business control experience is up to par to hold your PTD stakeholders accountable for the cost management and the delivery of commitments underlying the financial investments.

3 reasons why this is (not) for you

  • - Multitasking and structure are not for you You cannot multitask, keep overviews, prioritize, and bring your work to the finish
  • - Passive business partner You do not take initiative in pushing the business to do better and take financial insight into account
  • - Bad communicator Unable to bring forward your ideas and the implications they have on the business
  • + Strategic business partner You get energy from helping bring financial insights to the table and push the business into making financially sound decisions
  • + Stakeholder Management Pro You are good at managing your stakeholders and their expectations
  • + Cross-functional contributor You love the challenge of working in cross-functional teams where you are the only one with a finance background and are willing to put in the work to drive transformations into success
